Hello everyone,
in a couple of weeks, me and my wife will move to Dübendorf 9 min from the train station. For 3 years now we lived in Wiedikon which is almost the city center thus there are various restaurant options, proximity to everything and good public transportation. We really love Wiedikon but it is impossible to find a 3.5 apartment for less than 3k per month.
I would appreciate if somebody who lived or lives in Dübi shares his/her experiences. Topics like: safety, transportation (car needed?), if the distance from city center makes you tired, restaurant options, do employees at different services like die Post, Stadthaus get mad if someone does not speak German very well etc.
Answers will be highly appreciated!
Hi there, I've been living in 8600 for 5 years now. Halfway between Stettbach and the "City Center"
Safety - I've had no issues, then again this is Switzerland. I've not heard of any crimes in my area.
I know people who live here quite happily carless, some use the Public transport everywhere, others cycle around the place.
For the distance from the center, that is such a subjective question I'm unable to answer. A 10 minute walk to the shops and back carrying shopping is no issue for me, your mileage may vary.
The post/gemeinde can speak English according to a friend, I know one person had a negative experience however they're the type of person who can find an asshole everywhere, so it may be just them.
In the end Dübendorf is nearly a suburb of Zürich, it's not far enough away to have its own character, generally it's quite, potentially boring. Then again it's only a short train ride into town.
I am a first time mover to Zurich and I am looking apartments in Dubendorf too becasue I'd like to stay as close as possible to kid school.
In the past few days we've seen a couple of apartments close to the Wallisellen/Dubendorf border. Those apartments will be logistically perfect, but I am very puzzled. Visual impact of the zone screams "dangerous suburb" and "public housing" to my poor Italian aesthetics. So I wonder if it is actually possible to live in such a place with a 8yo, that is only child so needs to connect with kids from other families too.
What area are you referring to? Richti Areal? Without knowing where it is impossible to say.
