Light Beer

I like to keep a few light beers in the house during the summer for when I just don't want so much alcohol. Coop seem to have stopped stocking any this summer, so anyone know where I can get some in Zurich?

Cheers,

John

Make a Radler yourself with lemonade or sparkling water?

Yes, maybe I should turn to shandy's! Its more bottles or cans I am looking for, that I can take down to the lake or in the campervan.

And if you want to buy cans, Aldi and Lidl have for sure Radler

This abomination was made illegal with the popular vote of last July 18 2016 (The day of saint of the brewers )

Some speak easies and Getränkemarkte such as Rio http://www.rio-getraenke.ch/fileadmi...sere_Biere.pdf still sell the stuff uppon request. The code word is: Ich bin ein Warmduscher

Horrible stuff, but i see that Heineken are launching their light here in Switzerland so expect to see that in stores soon

The problem with Shandy/Radler/Panaché is that the lemonade contains an awful lot of sugar.

Already being promoted in my local Denner.

I like the alcohol free Erdinger. It's a nice drink in its own right.

yes surprisingly good, slice of lemon to make up for the lack of depth.

Landi do an alcohol free version of their Farmer beer, which is quite nice.

There are Landi shops in Maur, Moenchaltdorf and Meilen.

I make mine with the coop sugar-free grapefruit fizzy. It's nice and light (in both contexts )

Yes, but only in Switzerland, sometimes also Panasch. In Germany it is Radler (das), in the North also Alsterwasser but in the Saarland Panasch. In Austria it is Radler (der). If you use a wheat beer then the German call it Russ.

@Mountain High: if you're looking for a lighter beer with a lot of flavour, you could try a session IPA. It's a hop-forward beer-style, typically around 3-4.5% ABV, and meant, as the name suggests, for sessions. However, they make nice summer drinkers too. Drinks of the World has them on occasion. And Beers n More in ZH also stocks them pretty often.

Alternatively, you could go for Brewdog Nanny State, which weighs in at less than 1% Abv. Available at DotW.

Beers of the world at the station stocks a lot of different kinds.

Otherwise, Pilsner Urquel is a great pilsner, around 4.7% and cheap. Haven't found anything that can beat it yet! You can get it at COOP

Brewdog -- The green label "Dead Pony CluB" is 3.8% and quite a nice pale ale. I love them from the freezer - cooled to just above freezing point!

On a similar subject any tips for diet beer (or wine) ?

My diet is pretty good and i excersize very intensely 3-5 times per week... However I also love beer and wine.. The old addage that you can't out-train a bad diet diet is true..

So before last resort of actually trying to stop drinking (maybe try dignitas instead).. I wonder if there's a cheating option?

Brewdog have done wonders for developing the beer scene here! Even though they are big, they are able to produce lots of different types of beer. There's one called 'Nanny state' too which is around 2% from memory, can't get much more diet than that!

Nanny State is alcohol free (actually, they have to put 0.5% on the label as there could be a residue of alcohol in there)

I avoid Feldschlosssen beer as much as possible, because the company has bought many small Swiss breweries and then closed them, reducing our choice of craft made beer.

However a friend gave me a Feldschlossen Alcohol Free beer and it tasted nice.

I think the Prix Guarantee Coop cheap stuff is pretty good. I like the light easy to drink beers and at 50 rap a tin its perfect.

Be warned your friends will think youve hit bad times, but I find it a perfectly acceptable Carling/Heiniken style larger

So light, as in <~8%?
