Please explain me why do I need to pay to swim in a river, am I not allowed to jump into the watter and join the other people??
Hi I read there was this day where everbody jumps into the Limmat but apparentely you need tro buy tickets and there are no more available.
ON this page - 21 August by the look of it. Maybe you have missed the entry date. I bet there are so many people already registered that there wouldn't be any 'free' water left for you to jump into. Start practicing and check the Swimming Site on here regularly to make sure you are in time next year.
You could always do the Meilen to Horgen or Männedorf to Wädenswil instead.
You're not allowed to swim through the Zurich city centre part of the Limmat. You pay for the 'privilege' and organising of the event. They look after your kit, give you a drink and warm food plus a commemorative souvenir.
Feel free to go to the Oberer or Unterer Letten for fun packed days of swimming against the tide*, gratis.

I just called my husband ..worried that they were sold out! They still some available, we just bought 6 literally a few minutes ago! We saw it last year and didn't buy our tickets in advance and couldn't go;( We saw a few jump in but there are boat everywhere watching (for safety) not sure if it is really regulated and they carry all your belongings to the end of the swim for you. Looked like a great time.
I believe this is the homepage
Looks like the date has been changed to 28th Aug because of high water levels (means safety boats can't get under the bridges apparently).
Just got an email from starticket: the Limmatschwimmen has been cancelled for this year (2010) because:
a) the expected bad weather on Saturday
b) the water temperature (not expected to reach 21 for Saturday), currently 18.4
c) the flow of water from the Zürisee into the Limmat is still very high
Bummer
Early Bird tickets are not refundable, the full price ones are (25chf ones).
