Next step will be an MR screening in Zürich Unispital. Doc said it was a very rare thing and in ZH they have somebody who is famous for treating theses cases, so we'll see.
I'm telling you, I can take a lot... but a year ago we had a stillborn boy and now this...
If it helps any, I had a benign dermoid cyst removed from my ovary at age 28. They told me it was just a small number of cells that went wrong when my body was formed, and they grew into 'skin' cells - fat, oils and even a little bit of bone or tooth....
I know it can be a little more complicated when you are working with the bone, but I hope it's still very straightforward and not at all scary.
And I totally get you on the 'what else can go wrong in my life' feeling - my first son was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes, 10 days after the birth of our second son, a week before Christmas... and every year I go into a complete downward spiral this week...and a couple of weeks after Christmas which is the anniversary of the death of my godson's little brother...it absolutely sucks. Be kind. Make some fun in your life, and I hope it gets resolved very soon so you can stop worrying....
I'm so glad you will get the best doctor available for your little boy, so sorry about your terrible loss last year. I really wish you lots of strength, I'll think about you with love and hope. xxx
So sorry it didn't turn out as simple to deal with as we had all hoped. We'll be thinking of you in the days ahead and hope that the doctor who'll be consulted can do his stuff swiftly and efficiently and that this will, in a while, feel like only a bad dream.
So sorry to hear about this and all your worry. Try not to panic if you can, as a lipoma IS a form of benign tumor, 'just' a question of vocabulary and not necessarily severity - and is easily operable normally, even on the skull. Hopefully all will be well. How good is your German (or French) - would it help to go and discuss the results with somebody who can make sure there is NO misunderstanding.
Yes, I understand that. The point is that it turned out to be a tumor on the skull bone and not the lipoma that we first thought it was. The way I understand is the lipoma would have been a rather easy operation, but this really scares me now. I hope the diagnosis will remain that it is benign.
Thanks for the language tip, my German is good enough, but I also copied the letter with the diagnosis to my brother, who is a doctor and speaks German too, so I guess we will get it right.
But it is my understanding that a lipoma is a benign tumor, not all tumors are bad. this is what my doctor told me... that I have a tumor but it is benign and it is known as a lipoma and it is absolutely nothing to worry about.
wikipedia states at the beginning that a lipoma is a form of benign tumor:
My brother explained it to me in detail and he got an appointment for the MRT at his hospital on the 28th and I feel sort of relieved now that he is taking care of it. The MRT will tell us even more about it and then we will discuss the wheres and whens for the operation. It will also give us a second opinion.
Everybody have a nice Christmas, and I'll keep you posted, for it really helps to get it off and get support from you. Thank you all so much.
Hello back to all, hope you had nice holidays! We're back too and in our bags we have three DVDs with skull pictures and several letters with diagnosis, and the final one is that it is an epidermoid cyst which in itself wouldn't be too problematic, but due to the lack of space has done some damage to the skull bone. Still they say it is benign and that is a big relief.
We have an appointment at a neurosurgeon on the 17th and go from there and then hopefully it will be over soon.
So we had our big day at the neurosurgeon yesterday and the news he liked best was he can go on the skiing trip in two weeks as planned and will have his surgery the week after that. For the first time we saw the MR pictures and it was a bit scary, it looks like he has a golf ball next to his skull. The skull bone itself is very thin in that part but the doc said there was a good chance it would grow back once the cyst is taken out since he is still young.
He will have to be an in-patient for about 3 days, 1st day come to hospital, 2nd day operation, 3rd day monitoring and hopefully home, and one week no school - he loves that part.
