Living in CH versus SE, DK and the NL - your views please

hi friends,

i would like to know the answer of my question with your help.i say thank you in advance.

i am living in turkey and want to move to a european country.i have selected switzerland, denmark, the netherlands and sweden as my destinations.i do not know where is the best for me.

we know swiss is so expensive and i am not sure will the salaries cover living cost or no?

the netherland is quite cheaper but salaries are not as well as swiss.

sweden and denmark are cheaper but living in those countries are boring.

plz guide me and plz focus on salaries and life cost more,i am sensitive on this matter.

thank you

How are you going to get a work permit for any of these countries? That will probably help your decision.

Seeing as you don't have a clue where you're going I've no idea how we are meant to help you.

Welcome to the Forum anyway.

Hi mharabidian, and welcome to the Forum!

You haven't given us much details, but perhaps these are some sequential questions that you could ask yourself, and that could help you through your decision process:

A. Where is it more likely that I can get a visa to legally work in the country?

Search visa regulations for the applicable countries, quotas, requirements, visa types, etc.

B. Is my profession in demand in the country where I want to go, or is the market oversaturated? And also, do I have the right qualifications (professional credentials, local languages, anything relevant and applicable) and are my qualifications recognized where I want to go?

Search economics news, job searching websites for positions in your field, get a feeling of the general environment by searching internet forums such as this one for all the relevant countries you are interested in.

C. After A and B, and if both are green lights, then ask yourself: what kind of salary can I reasonably earn in my profession in the country? Again, search websites that can help you or use the search function in this and other internet forums that are applicable in your countries of choice.

D. What is the cost of living in the countries/cities/areas I am interested in? Again, there are plenty of websites that can help you answer this question. Also, try to be focused on specific areas/cities, as different cities in the same country can have very different cost of living metrics.

E. Based on all the above, can I, or I+any dependents, have a comfortable lifestyle there that I will enjoy? (definition of comfortable and enjoyable varies and is utterly personal - to me, for example, "comfortable" means I can pay my bills, save a little each month, then enjoy the rest, and a huge part of "enjoyable" is being close enough to my family).

F. Last, but absolutely not least, if you have dependents, would you husband/wife/kids like to move, or are they comfortable where they are? If you have kids, it is imperative that you also research in details things such as schooling options, etc.

You've got a lot of "homework" to do...Good luck, and if you finally decide to settle on Switzerland, you will find that this Forum has a lot of useful info that can help you before, during, and after your move.

If you think Sweden & Denmark are boring, I'm surprised you have Switzerland (not Swiss, by the way) on your list at all.

Indeed.

I would just draw out of a hat.

Having been to Sweden and Denmark, I find them very boring (and flat).

Tom

There seem to be a lot of Swiss in Switzerland. If that helps.

Unless he is asylum shopping ( hint, hint ) - member ( not in Turkey as claimed ) banned for duplicate account but am leaving this thread open for discussions.

On pin and needle to hear a answer to that

I find annoying those foreigners/outsiders/locals from somewhere else than Switzerland who keep talking about Switzerland as a miracle land full of rich, and ready to provide a lot of money to everyone.

As the OP said a bit it's all about the "cost of living", especially if you compare to the salary.

Also in a more general/important way, it's the quality of life that matters.

In that respect, I doubt that the Turkish OP who has no experience about European countries or Switzerland, will enjoy it necessarily. (If that OP gets a jobs and a permis, which is far from granted).

Also, confusing "Swiss" with "Switzerland" show the little knowledge they have...Which here is not often forgiven. (Think about many topics where the "outsider" or immigration trying to integrate has been screwed, such as "receiving present" and paying custom duties, etc... etc...).

Note that it's origins does not matters as regard to my comment, but probably does for the permis/Job/employer.

So for your information, this is not an eldorado and you might have a better life where you are, rather than pursuing a "gold fever" dream.

Especially that it will get even more crowded here and this will continue to degrade the local conditions of life... Not saying that the "reasonable limit" has been reached, but it's likely to happen.

You were with the wrong crowd. Copenhagen (and Amsterdam) is heaven on earth (on certain conditions, one of them is language) and the sex is great (at least for me).

it's the first time we ended up with this conclusion: we are all different. Great thread.

Yes. But Switzerland isn't exactly a hub of excitement. If the OP wants a not boring place to live, Switzerland shouldn't be on the list. Anyway, we know that's not what the OP is looking for.

Yes. People seem to want Swiss salaries but they don't want Swiss costs. You can't have it both ways. As a % of income I spend much less in CH then in other "cheap" countries.

All of the countries mentioned have beauty and depth to them that you can only see by living there.

What is the point of this sort of post? Why bother replying if all you have is nasty sarcasm? This is a discussion forum after all.

...and as it is a discussion forum, why bother keeping the thread open for responses if the OP is banned?

The OP was banned for having a second account. The discussion about the various countries is more important and useful to the community in general. The OP can participate using his original account should he wish to.

You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to Federica again.

But it was a bloody helpful post nevertheless.

If this is indeed the case, Switzerland might not be the country for you. There are parts of society that aren't overwhelmingly welcoming to asylum seekers.

If you can't even get the name of the country right, you deserve some sarcastic comments.

just sayin...
