Living in Delemont and working in Basel

Hey everyone.

Just found this forum and there are so many useful informations. I am a first time poster.
This is my situation:
I live in and work in Basel, i am learning german since some time but my work is in English so it makes it even harder. But I do speak French.
My boyfriend is moving from the canton fribourg so we don’t have to do long distance anymore and he found a job in Delemont. We both speak French and neither speak german.
We are thinking about setting base in Delemont.
I have seen that housing is cheaper but saw many people mentioning taxes are very high. Would it still be worth it?
We want to raise a family in a year or so but are also worried how expensive school is in .
Basel has some better prices now and help for families. But indeed the language is going to be a big barrier and continues to be and I don’t like to feel like a foreigner in a city that I live in.
Did anyone make the move from Basel to delemont and raising a family whilst commuting? Are kindergarten prices sustainable?
Any information will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you forum :slightly_smiling_face:

Unless you are making a lot of money when tax becomes more important, I think it makes more sense to move where you both speak the language well. It will make everything easier and improve your quality of life.

I have a friend who lives in Delemont and both of them work in Basel.
Their kids are older now but it was the ideal situation for them as they were both French speakers.
The commute isn’t really very difficult.

Thank you for your answer. You are right I am just also worried if the commuting will take some quality of life too.

That great to hear. Thank you for your answer :slightly_smiling_face:

Maybe you can also find a job closer too?

Half an hour one-way commute by train. Not close, but it could be much worse.
