logopedist

Hi all,

I am looking for a way to correct my son pronunciation. I was wondering if Krankenkasse are paying for logopedist's visit or it's 100% my business.. any idea?

Many thanks,

How old is your son?

If he is kindergarten or older then it may be provided by the speech therapist at school. Just as for an appointment.

If he is younger visit his doctor with him. She can check his hearing and make a recommendation and referral if necessary.

Also if you haven't already get his hearing checked. Often children who are not speaking well have a problem with their hearing.

It's often called glue ear, which means fluid behind the eardrum that prevents the sound waves moving through the ear. The child can't hear well and this affects then when the are learning to speak.

Its very commen in young children.

I raised concerns with my son's doctor at his 4 year check up as there are a number of sound he cannot pronounce and although all the children are assessed in kindergarten it will all be done in German.

I was really surprised to be referred to the children's hospital where they did a full speech assessment in English. It involved a 20 minute hearing test and then a very thorough speech assessment which lasted over an hour. This was all covered by his health insurance as is the speech therapy which he will receive.

So basically I would go and speak with your child's doctor first and try to get an assessment done.

Disclaimer--I have no idea how it works in Canton Bern. But in Canton Vaud, children have to be assessed through standard testing organised by the Canton and carried out by the logopedist office. If the exam shows they are deficient, the Canton pays 100%. There is periodic re-testing and treatment is continued for a long as deemed necessary.
