While there seem to be multiple shops offering sweetened condensed milk, the only place I have ever been able to find unsweetened condensed milk is Migros . It looks like this:
This milk is relatively sweet and lacking in salt/umami compared to the Carnation brand of condensed milk I am accustomed to from my former life in Canada.
Does anyone know of alternative brands of unsweetened condensed milk that are available for purchase in Switzerland?
Thanks in advance!
You might get a little lucky with the American Market - they have stuff from that part of the world: https://www.americanfoodmarket.ch/en/
…not that Canada is America…
But if you’re craving Twinkies, they’re your source!
I’ve sometimes seen Carnation evaporated milk in the Indian supermarkets here.
Maybe there is a recipe somewhere online. I often have to do “copycat recipes” that I find online for items that I can’t easily find here in CH. e.g. Campbell’s chicken soup or Lipton Onion Soup mix.
But I did find this just now:
Heirler Organic Condensed Milk unsweetened, 158 ml
https://www.violey.com/en/heirler-or…d_p_42756.html
Only 1.38 CHF
Apparently unsweetened condensed milk is also sometimes used in Indian and Middle-Eastern cooking, so perhaps you could also try at some of those specialty shops.
