Also, I need to get me some spray can cheese for a Philly cheese steak I'm working on.
yeah, I pay 3chf or so for my A&W. I sip veeerrryyy slowwwlllyyy
...make sure you invite your dear friend, Mr. LIB.
and his Dad...
...and the hot stepmom
Totally (somewhat) OT, but for American food that's cheap and amazingly tasty, only a couple hours away, book yourself an Easyjet to London (for 90chf in advance) and head to Thanks For Franks in Soho. Here's the menu, complete with Philly Cheese Steaks .
...shall we take your jet of mine?
See here's what you do. You book 6 weeks in advance on Easyjet and get a same-day return for 80chf or so. You book a bus/coach ticket into central London for equivalent 10chf return, also via Easyjet. Then you get a full English breakfast when you arrive with coffee for (as per menu) 9chf (£6), lunch for 13chf (£7.50) and a steak dinner for 34chf (£17). You're back home with 3 quality American restaurant meals under your belt for 146chf. Can't do that in Zurich.
..and it's amazing how flying out to another country including transport within the country is still cheaper and better than eating out in Zurich.
Indeed. It's the same magic that makes a burrata go from 5chf to 17chf as it moves the three hours by train from Milan to Zurich.
nevermind KFC... "that" is a plan I would sign up for.
Hello, although i am a transplanted american living in Danmark I have been able to find many of the american products and ordered them online, the one I'm thinking might work for you comes from Germany it's call www.americanfood4U.dk I'm not sure if they deliver to Switzerland or not you might also try www.abigails.dk or www.foodfromhome.dk if none of these deliver to Switzerland they may at any rate be able to help you find a site that can. Good luck with your search I know how much I missed so many American food products. Barb

Try this link there are several sites listed for American food stores in Switzerland

But you're making sure all that restaurant help is getting well paid so that don't have to be nice to you! Philistine!
Of course, the flaw in your plan is getting in and out of London in the winter....
I found your easy cheese here:

/gladly accept a cheesesteak as reward
You better hope Grumpy is not reading this post. Cheese in a can .
Globus is currently running an 'American Christmas' promotion. I think there are some American food products included. I have found other American products at Globus and Jelmoli too. I think I recently saw Oreos in Coop too.
Whether Grumpy's reading it or not, in this thread we don't buy into "better" or "worse" except to say a Philly cheese steak made without cheese wiz is a poor substitute indeed.
A Philly Cheese Steak should be made with provolone, minute steaks, fried onions and ketchup. Anything else is sacrilege. Cheez Whiz, really? You must be from New Jersey.
ketchup????.. in a cheese steak?.. where are YOU FROM ?
EVERYONE KNOWS it should be minute steak, fried onions, american cheese on a chunk of french bread ( fried mushrooms as an acceptable option )
Hmmmm. Despite being from the other end of Pennsylvania, I do recall actual Philadelphians putting Cheez Whiz (which often comes in a jar) on a Philly Cheese Steak. American cheese too. Sure, provolone is better cheese but philadelphians don't use it. And ketchup with provolone? I yi yi.
