You don't hire a lawyer to prosecute a child abuse case, you notify the authorities.

Is it wrapped up within a divorce proceeding ? Do you want the child to be removed by authorities to a 'safe' place ? Does the person still have contact with the child ? Has a specialised child protection psychologist had sessions with the child ?

Do you know that it may be extremely traumatic for the child to go through court proceedings ? Has the child seen a therapist ? Is the abuse ongoing ? Is there a supportive network for the child ? Does the child want to cooperate with authorities and go through this process ?

Not a divorce, not a need for removal. Child was abused by a former teacher, who is only being charged with sex with a minor, rather than sexual assault by a person in authority.

Er, no. Because sexual assault by someone in authority INCLUDES sex with a minor. And because the assaulter had authority over the child, the level of culpability is much higher.

(Almost) every lawyer speaks English. What you need is a lawyer specialised in that area of the law.

After a quick glance at the relevant articles I'm not sure you're right really:

Art. 187

1. Gefährdung der Entwicklung von Unmündigen.

Sexuelle Handlungen mit Kindern

1. Wer mit einem Kind unter 16 Jahren eine sexuelle Handlung vornimmt,

es zu einer solchen Handlung verleitet oder

es in eine sexuelle Handlung einbezieht,

wird mit Freiheitsstrafe bis zu fünf Jahren oder Geldstrafe bestraft.

Art. 188

Sexuelle Handlungen mit Abhängigen

1. Wer mit einer unmündigen Person von mehr als 16 Jahren, die von ihm durch ein Erziehungs-, Betreuungs- oder Arbeitsverhältnis oder auf andere Weise abhängig ist, eine sexuelle Handlung vornimmt, indem er diese Abhängigkeit ausnützt,

wer eine solche Person unter Ausnützung ihrer Abhängigkeit zu einer sexuellen Handlung verleitet,

wird mit Freiheitsstrafe bis zu drei Jahren oder Geldstrafe bestraft.

So how old is the child? If he/she is less than 16 years of age it will be article 187. If the child is more than 16 years of age it will be article 188 if she less than 18. Afterwards another norm will have to be used but then that person is no longer treated as a child.

srtgray, I'm sure the members here will be happy to help in terms of advice and finding a lawyer. However this sounds like a serious case and it might not be in your interests to post too many details on a public forum concerning this. In such cases it isn't difficult to put 2 & 2 together from the details, even if no names are referred to.
