I am looking for this type of vinegar and I know the Coop, Migros, Loeb or Globus dont have it. Does anyone know where I can get my hands on these? or a similar product?. I found it in Amazon.de but I am trying to avoid having to pay shipping fees if its available locally. Thanks everyone.
Hello, anyone seen this product anywhere? I can swing by Bern, Interlaken, Spiez or Thun easily. Thank you
Sounds like a combination of 'Cider with Rosie' and 'Listen with Mother' ..... as seen on the South Bank Show.
Out of curiosity in what way is it different from the apple cider vinegar you can buy in places like Coop?
A look at their scary website would suggest it is organic. Coop do one
And another thing - why do people (Americans, I assume) insist on referring to it as "apple cider"? What other sort of cider is there that's not from apples?
Pear cider?
That would be Perry
Well, I'd rather enjoy a pint of nice Cider from Sommerset rather than discussing definitions, but as far as I looked "cider" is alcohol blablable from fruits not "alcohol blabla from Apple".
In fact Perry seems to be another naming for referring to Cider made from pears.
But it does not means that "Pear cider" is not "cider".
Oh well, its both nice drink anyway
Maybe it's made with liquid water.
What does the "with mother" bit mean in the title?
It means that OP is looking for that apple Cider "with mother" (ie they are both looking for it):
Or not...
I don't think even the Americans use it for anything other than apples. Fermented liquor from anything else is not cider.
I do know that they sometimes use "apple cider" to mean non-alcoholic stuff, i.e. just apple juice, and "hard cider" to mean the alcoholic sort, but in the context of vinegar, which can only come from the alcoholic one, that's clearly not the intended usage.
No, it's made from pears in the same way that apple are used to make cider, but I've never heard it referred to as anything other than perry.
It means it will still have some of the bacterias that made vinegar from alcohol in the bottle.
I feel overlooked.
Here comes the Cider Industry Deserves Equal Regulation Act (a.k.a. CIDER Act)
The "mother" ( Essigmutter in german )is a sort of starter body of bacteria , which would be able to start a new batch of vinegar. It used to be found in bottles of vinegar when I was a kid, which is not so long ago. It looks like a nebulous slime floating in the vinegar.
Why not make your own mother?
Is that a look that you do not know what a mother is? And because of that, you are giving me the angry confused look? A mother is mold that grows on the surface of vinegar after a duration of time. You can take a piece of it, and add it to wine, to turn that as well into a quality vinegar, and grow/make another mother. It is faster to do if someone already has one, or you can buy it. But anyone can make one...you and Timow, really.
