Looking for fresh Hummus

Hello,

I wasn't able to find any previous threads that could fully answer this question.

I am looking for a store which sells fresh Hummus. Not the raw chickpeas and not preserved in a tin can. I'm talking about the real thing. Fresh.

From the practical perspective, I'm looking for places near the following locations: in Basel center or in Zurich near Zurich HB, Dietikon, Wallisellen, or Kloten (including the airport).

P.S. Restaurants that provide takeaway are also an option.

Thanks in advance for your help

You can tuck into a plate of hummus with warm pitta bread at Damas Cafe (Barfussaplatz, Basel) and I think they also do take-away.

There's a stall at the Wednesday market at Zurich HB that sells great fresh hummus (among other things). It's also typically conveniently located by Grumpy's cheese stall: two awesome birds, one stone.

If you have a blender you can make it in 60 seconds with no mess, no fuss, no prep.

The Migros sell it too, not in a tin but in a plastic container, so it's Freshish... It's quite easy to make, the only difficulty is getting it smooth enough, otherwise all you need is garlic, olive oil, lemon juice and Tahina/Tahini which is found at Manor among other places, oh, and the chick peas, of course.

The secret to smooth humus is simply more liquid in the blender. If using canned chick peas, just keep a little of the water behind.

Yes, its the starchy chickpea water plus olive oil to make a blended emulsion. This by the way is precisely the same secret to great pasta and risotto.

There's a Kosher/ Jewish Food, chilled corner in the Coop Sihlcity that sells Hummus in 3 different varieties.

on tuesdays and fridays there is a small market at the back of basel SBB and there is a stall that sells hummus and olives etc.

Good grief!!!!

I thought this thread said :"Looking for fresh Humans" - aaargh!!

For you there is this.

And the hummus is as fresh as can be as they make it each Wednesday on the actual stall. I usually bring a tub home for my (very) late night supper.

That's what we do. Even made the tahini for it after I tracked down sesame seeds. A food processor works a lot better though.

THe hummous at the Wednesday stall is very good. Also nearby is the Lebanese take-away on Hafnerstr at Josefstr.

[I think I've mentioned that place 2 times a day lately; I should get commission.]

Best if you do it yourself

Oh dear - I can't tell you what I thought the "Pet Photography" thread said!!

I have been inspired. We are eating lebanese tonight. I have just now made the hummus - it's being left in the blender until needed so I can blend again. Added more lemon that usual as this is my taste. I have a load of parsley on the window sill which is going to be cut down in the prime of life, mixed with mint, tomato and burgur, olive oil and lemon juice to make a cracking tabbouleh and that might be it, or else I'll do and get some minced lamb/beef mix to make kofta.

For Tahina it's essential though for hummus, a blender is easier to clean - I just chuck it upside down in the dish washer. If I can use a blender instead of a magimix I will.

Tahini is only 'essential' if you like the taste of it. There are plenty of recipes for tahini-less hummus.

No I meant a food processor is essetial to make tahina, you can't do it in a blender.
