Looking for Japanese kids teacher/community.

Hi - Currently living in Japan (we are a French/English native family) and moving to Switzerland in May.

I have a 4 year old who has been attending Japanese kindergarten for 1 year. I'm looking for her to continue her Japanese language learning - as she got pretty good!

Either online or in person.

Also if there are any Japanese families who want to hang out. My Japanese is still limited to non existant but my husband can have a conversation. We have a 2 year old also.

We will be around the Uster/Wetzikon area we think, but not 100% sure yet.

Please get in touch

You could get a Japanese au pair, then your younger child could learn too?If that’s not an option there must be loads of Japanese teachers online.

I just Googled “Japanese club Zurich” and there are quite a few good hits. Perhaps you can visit a couple that are geared to families rather than, say, professionals. There’s even a Swiss-Japan club so you are likely to find pockets of English speakers as a common ground.

GZ Heuried (Zürich) has a Japanische Kindergruppe that meets once a month, for Japanese speaking parents and/or children. The age range is 0-Kindergarten age, so hopefully still OK for your child. Even if not, though, perhaps this would be a good contact for meeting other Japanese speaking families:

(‘GZ’ stands for Gemeindezentrum, a community center. These offer lots of activities for families and special interest groups.)

ETA:

A similar offering, Japanische Krabblegruppe, in Uster:

Again, likely for younger children but hopefully a connection to other Japanese-speaking families.

The same family center in Uster also offers Kamishibai, story telling theater. However, it is not clear to me if this is offered in Japanese or if it follows the Japanese tradition but tells the stories in German. Still, likely worth inquiring. Age 3 and up.

Also t the Japanese School in Zürich, a private school, is actually in Uster. From their website, they offer a Saturday school as well, which seems to be focused on langage study:

I don't know Zurich but when you get there look for Japanese supermarkets. The ones near me all have noticeboards with community events, classes, cultural events etc.

Not sure that would be possible. Au pairs come here to learn a Swiss language among other things and I suspect that would need to be German if that’s spoken where they’re going to be based since the host family would have to speak it. Have we had any French speaking people hosting au pairs in the German part of the country?
