I'm new in Switzerland and settled down in Yverdon "city centre", which is beautiful!
However, sadly, I don't know anyone here yet. Would like to meet people to share experience and events.
I'm German but lived in Ireland for over 3 years before arriving in Switzerland. Is there anyone Irish or German or Austrian out there? Would make me so happy because I miss it!
There plenty of Irish on these boards (German and austrians too maybe?).
I don't live in Yverdon but in Fribourg which isn't too far from you
For events and meeting new people there are some regularly organised (check social section) and while I haven't been to any yet it is on my to do list at some point in the near future.
Lovely little town Yverdon - great spa, great beach - 20 mins from decent ski slopes (Metabief/Mt d'Or, near Vallorbe but in France, or Les Rasses next to St Croix)) and fab cross country skiing, and very close to Lausanne, Neuchatel and Bern. Enjoy - we are just over the mountain, so if ever you want to do some cross country skiing, we could meet up at Les Rasses/Les Cluds, just above your head.
yeah, would love to do cross country. my husband finds it boring so need other people to join. however, still need to figure out how nanny is doing with my daughter, so maybe not until February.
so where are the irish????
and yeah, funny but you anglophones managed to set up a nice forum here but can't find anything similar for germans. strange.
Just get in touch we you are ready. Anyway, the xcountry starts next to the downhill slopes at Les Rasses - and there is a café and ski rental place there, as well as a large car-park. How old is little one? I could just pull him/her on a sledge behind? (btw I am a granny pushing 60- so you might prefer not to meet!). Like skiing and xcountry - do you ski? Will organise a Sunday xcountry meet in Feb., for all those in Romandie who fancy having a go.
Welcome to the lovely region of Yverdon. There are quite a few English speakers in Yverdon, and tons of German speakers too (although I don't know many yet).
My husband (French) and I (Canadian) recently moved here and decided to throw down our roots. If you're interested to meet up for a Guinness or coffee or a chat sometime soon, get in touch and let me know.
My husband is always looking for people to go skiing / rock climbing with (for me, it's a bit of a pause these days seeing as I'm expecting a little one; due in a few weeks).
Welcome again, and all the best for your new Swiss adventure.
I moved to Yverdon with my husband four weeks ago, and we are also looking to meet other people here. We are both from the US, but my husband speaks German. We would definitely be interested in going cross country skiing or meeting up for a drink.
Kristal, I had promised to organise a cross-country ski trip BUT THERE IS NOOOOOO SNOW! Well just a little bit of artificial snow here and there. There are a couple of downhill pistes at Les Rasses just above St Croix- and lessons are going ahead for beginners, etc. Also a few pistes open at Metabief near Vallorbe (but in France) and in Les Fourgs, a few kms from St Croix - perfect for beginners too. But apart from that, silch, de nada, zéro.
Got friends from UK coming for half-term - let's hope we have some by now, or the kids will be so disappointed.
Will organise something as soon as snow comes, promise. And a few walks in our beautiful mountains in Spring and Summer.
I realise this thread is old, but thought I'd join in nonetheless...
I'm from the States but have lived in Europe for 20 years and have been in Switzerland for 5 years, first in Geneva and now near Yverdon-les-Bains where I've settled and plan to stay - would love to meet other Internationals in the area!
