Does anyone know where I can find pinto beans, either tinned or dried, I'm not fussy.
Those look like what they call borlotti beans here. You can get them tinned or dried at the Migros and probably other supermarkets too.
Borlotti, which is a variety of romano bean, and pinto are not quite the same, but usually they can be used to replace each other.

Found pinto beans on the website, in German they are called Wachtelbohnen.
This calls for a trip to the shop.
We went to the El Maiz shop today, for anyone who likes Mexican food it is an Aladin's cave!
We found the pinto beans, and had a look round at everything, some of the chilli saces sound lethal (one was called 'Arse in the [water]tub' and another was actually called 'f##**n' hot' - amongst others with very descriptive names). There is also a room with non-food Mexican things for example, pinatas.
Great place, thanks for telling us about it Tom, we have a very tasty looking and very spicy vegetarian chilli bubbling away on the cooker as I type.
Anyone found an equivalent shop in Geneva? Otherwise, I'll just hunt down elMaiz next time I'm in Zurich. By the way, thanks for the hot sauce descriptions - hilarious!
Just order online, www.elmaiz.ch , that's what I usually do.
(last time I was in Zurich, I stopped by only to discover they are closed on Monday!)

Not in Geneva, but here's a Basel-based online shop , which may be of some interest.
God, I've been in Austin 2 years just bathing in HEB's beans and jalapenos.... it's gonna hurt coming back to Geneva.
You can bet I'm bringing a good 10 cans back!
I'm convinced La Manana restaurant in Paquis knows something we don't on where to find Mexican food in Geneva.
