Looking to start a parent-child playgroup

Hello,

I am looking into possibly starting a parent-child educational playgroup in Zurich or Basel after I move to Switzerland.

I am looking for a (rental) space that could host the classes, but am not sure where to look. I was wondering if you had any recommendations for places that would be interested in hosting parent-child classes? (churches, temples, children's stores, etc.?)

I would also welcome any other information pertaining to starting a parent-child playgroup in Switzerland (Basel or Zurich) and/or meeting other professionals who run parent-child playgroups. I will be in Switzerland in April.

Many thanks!!

Good morning. Welcome to the forum.

There are already a few parent-child groups around, and many of course change with the seasons. As the child of the instigator grows, so the pairs needs change.

And many of the non-specific groups are free, or ask for a token contribution towards the cost of room-hire. (2-5chf)

There are enough "Spielgruppe" around (google it), where you might be able to ask to use the room for an hour or 2 a week, working around their timetable.

There are "singing groups" in the local language which ask between 10chf and 20chf a "lesson", and parent-child gym "classes", asking 70chf for the season (October to Easter).

Otherwise, Gymboree has made it to Switzerland, though as an attendee, this is a little expensive as there are also the indoor playgrounds offering unlimited time on similar equipment. You could buy a franchise? Though personally I didnt find this financially viable. Maybe I'm too greedy or lazy?

For room rental, you can check out www.comparis.ch .

Hiring people may cost you between 20-40chf an instructor, based on skill level, and what you expect of them.

Make yourself an initial financial plan based on these ideas, and then see how you feel.

And check out this website, to see what other sort of businesses Expats have set up here:

Thank you Rangatiranui for answering my post and for all the useful links

I truly appreciate!

If there is someone else on this board who is also interested in providing (parent-child) classes and is looking for a space, I would love to hear from you.

Thank you!

Hi Sophie,

I'm about to start a Eng./Czech playgroup and parents coffees on the left side of the Zurich lake. I'm doing all the paperwork right now and have already found a place to rent. I'd love to share this place with somebody else or even let somebody else to take over english lessons of my playgroup (because a native engl. speaker who was supposed to be involved has changed her mind). I'm practically open to anything- I just want to run something for children and bring parents together, I love to organize things and I'm crazy about working on a project. The only thing is I need somebody who would love to teach in english (I'm doing Czech sessions).

PM me for more information.

Take care,

K.
