Loud music in passing cars

Is this a new phenomenon?

I only really noticed it this year during the hot weather (correction - fair weather days) when a lot of people (all age groups) drive cabrios or with the windows down (even with the windows closed you can still hear the base).

I'm not quite sure what the driver's/passenger's message is supposed to be - is it 'this is my favourite song' or 'this is what you should be listening to'.

Perhaps not so noticable in cities, but in the sticks you can hear them from a long way away.

I have actually noticed it too. It's been about a year and a half or so, and our little town has turned into the noisy nightmare, super noisy cars, crazy exhaust pipes that I know for sure would be illegal elsewhere for noise pollution, tuned up motorbikes that shatter my windows and wake up 3 babies in the house, I can hear them cry, including my kid. And this all within 100m from a cop station. I don 't get it. Rednecks.

Rant of the day over, phew..I know, could have been juicier, but honestly, trying to work on a sleep pattern of a child that has been routinely screwed is irritating.

No disrespect . . . . but, where the hell have you been?

Oh my

I really should close the windows.

I know, makes me feel like an old fart. I can deal with musical noise, no matter how ugly it is, but a loud motorbike, so loud that any tiny bit of common sense is just left flabbergasted...and at a densely inhabited area, grrrr.

Not sure where he has been, but it never used to be like this before..in our area, it has only gotten absurd pretty recently.

I'm the old lady here !!!! *place taken*

I do understand the noise of revved up mopeds and motorbikes. Not easy in in towns

"Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to Nidwalden where the local time is 1970. We would ask you to please remain seated until the horse has stopped and the cart has come to a full halt."

Weird............just this very second a car went by our house doing just that.

I suppose all that banging away does come in handy sometimes, because they were driving really slowly and I managed to 'Shazam' the song ('moves like Jagger' by Maroon 5).

Just bought it online (it's actually really catchy) .

As usual, CH is a few years behind. This has been very common on any sunny day in the UK for a decade or so, lol. (tw*ts)

It was around 1985 when an old friend of mine (old even then) called that phenomenon the "Oophta Syndrome," because all you hear from those cars is, "Oofta, oofta, oofta, oofta..."

New? Not at all. I knew a guy in the late 'sixties who had a car whose entire trunk was one big subwoofer with 600 Watt for the subbass channel alone, total of 3000 Watt RMS. I told him that, at full volume, his ear drums will meet where other people have their brain. No idea why he has shunned me ever since.

Actually, my brother had a souped up 2CV with a huge superwoofer blasting music out in the 60s around here (big matress in the back with little curtains, how cool was that)- mind you, at least it was decent music (Deep Purple, Pink Floyd, Jimmy Hendrix) so it sounded less like just current

'boom boom boom' (yes I am an oldie odile).

It was ripped to pieces in the car park at Portsmouth whilst we were at the isle of Wight! (70) - he got in a huff and left me to hitch to London.

Just for the legal record, are you still talking about loud music, the neighbors, or simply sexual innuendos....?

Chortle chortle...........no just the music.

Sorry, you'll have to speak up, I'm currently driving home past St.Gallen and Gilmour is about to hit the first chords of the guitar solo in "Comfortably Numb" and the windrush means that I'm at full volume.....

Another thing I don't understand is, when you blast yer muzzak, don't you want to keep your windows closed, so you can hear it better? Why get the outside noise? Ok ok...I grew up with cars that hardly had all they needed like steering wheels and stick shift, stereo was a bonus that came in 1997.

Sniff, nostalgia..

It was so loud one wouldn't hear anything there, anyways..

Unbelievable! And just now, outside my apartment I saw a young man scrumping for apples. I shouted at him but he zoomed off on his penny farthing.

If it wasn't for loud music coming from cars I'd never have understood the Doppler effect in school 30 years ago.

I take it that's a joke? Doing EF and driving is illegal, isn't it??

I live near the local Gymnasium and I can tell you, there's no need for an alarm clock here. 7 AM - boom, boom, boom - shake da room.........

Not just EF

*methinks t'was a joke indeed*

its cool innit ......?
