Hi,
Is anyone doing the Luzern Marathon this year ? I cant wait to do it again, weather should be a bit warmer than it is at the moment
I did a test half marathon run last Sunday and was 15 minutes faster than last year (1.35) !
Ill be in Pickwicks afterwards for a few beers if anyone else if around !!

You don't have to wait that long. I like the fact that there is a beer station just before the finish.
I dont like the fact that the beer is non-alcoholic
I'm just doing the half; didn't want to train all that hard. Full marathon = drinking reduction. ;-)

Can't say I was up for having a beer after the marathon - just glad to finish. I would like to say thanks to all the supporters in Luzern, the atmosphere was great. It was my first marathon and I really appreciated all the support, especially the last 5kms when it was starting to really hurt. I did hear lots of english speakers cheering in the crowd, especially when they recognised my Aussie hat. It certainly helped with the motivation.
Yep, the atmosphere was great and the whole event was well organized too.
I found it much tougher doing the actual race than all the training i did, but it was fun all the same.
Next year i'd love to do the full marathon...
Does anyone know why the Luzern marathon does not have that kind of elite status like other marathons?
There did not seem to be any elite foreign nationals, for example.
Is the time of year wrong or perhaps the three little hills mean the course in not that fast?
Was the fastest time of 2.27 indicative of the course or the calibre entrants?
Just wondering...

Could be the three little hills that seemed to get a lot bigger on the second lap. I guess it's only new - the first event was in 2007.

Congratulations to all of you who took part.
I enjoyed the hills - it's when I overtook lots of people.
(most of them were walking!)
So that tells something about your calibre
to all who participated.

If you like hills, perhaps it will be the Jungfrau marathon for you next year
I am one of the regular uphill walkers but still like hills
Btw, what was the total climb, Tom? Becos without knowing that and the terrain, the time really doesn't signify anything...

According to the
website , around 30m height difference with 152m of climbs
Exactly ! That's why I can't understand why so many people seemed to be struggling.
Yeah, I'd like to do some mountain marathons (maybe just the one) next year.
However...
I still haven't decided whether Advntur's blog of his epics are an inspiration or are enough to put me off for life!
Surprised they managed a course so flat in Switzerland.
not an uncommon problem hereabouts
Is it an inspiration or a warning?
