I recently bought a lycamobile sim and I am using it in samasung galaxy s2 phone. I am unable to use the mobile data on my phone and also it keeps showing the roaming sign "R" even though I am in zurich. Does anybody know how to solve this problem. I found no help on the internet .
sounds like you're not connecting to a swiss mobile mast, are you near the border? in your network selection on the phone set it to Lycamobile instead of search or whatever andriod calls it
I enabled data on roaming , but still couldn't use mobile data. Also, I searched on net and there were some posts on APN setting. I changed my APN setting, mobile data was active but later I realised that money was being deducted from my mobile balance even though internet on lyca mobile is free
I used these APN setttings only but did not call to activate web services. Maybe that is why money was being deducted from my balance. Thank you, I think calling them should fix my internet problem.
But what do I do about the "R" sign. How do I remove it?
lycamobile is an MVNO virtual operator in swiss. They are provisioning their swiss sim cards from netherlands *i read on some forum* therefore as far as your mobile is concerned the sim card is roaming in switzerland *even if your using the lycamobile network*. to get it to work you need to enable roaming for data if you dont it simply wont work. However this is not the case on
all android devices just some, and windows phone 8 and iphone seem to not be
so confused and just see it as a swiss card. switch your network selection
to manual *a must* and select lycamobile network. even with roaming on your mobile wont wobble off onto a french or germand network that way as long as you select MOBILE NETWORK SELECTION.. its that way on my note 3. lyca on my iphone just works no roaming indicator. there you go..
i like lycamobile but as it uses swisscom network it locks my mobile to 3g/2g only no 4g via the sim tool kit. Swisscom network is simply horrid with flakey speeds, 1997 like 3g coverage with no signals in loads of places, and to see EDGE or GPRS in 2014 is just disgraceful for such a technologically advanced country. the swisscom state monopoly has thus failed to innovate and benefit the consumer an hardly any ways..
ill be moving off lycamobile as their stupid .45/min charges to call local
networks are simply moronic. yeah thanks for that free call to canada/usa + .25 connect charge great.. but useless when i need to do work in this country.
Its back to carrying 2 sim cards with a main number for local calls, and a throw away sim card from whoever for calling overseas...
sadly.. swiss networks are 5 years behind the rest of the eu in costs, technology and innovation.
MAny things are The Swiss seem to like the things that don't change too much
BTW: I have switched to Lyca and even after manually selecting the Lycamobile network, I have the roaming sign constantly on. Is this an internal roaming between operators? I've experienced something like this while living in Ireland.
Ps. My wife's Sony Xperia Z3 does not show this sign, maybe it is the lack of LTE in my phone that triggers the roaming...
You are right it is indeed the internal roaming is the reason behind the R sign showing on your phone.
The R sign on the internal roaming is dependent on the phone not the 2, 3 or 4G network. ie some companies would have the swiss lycamobile network code setup in their software/firmware hence not showing as roaming while others don't!
The only solution I found is on rooted phones where once can install an app that will add the said code to the phone's system and fix the issue!
the solution to disable the accidental international roaming is simple. on Android go to apps on the device and click the "Lycamobile Services" app (Sim like icon), then tap/select "Lycamobile", tap/select "Select mode", tap/select "Manual", tap/select "Switzerland", tap/select "lycamobile" that is it. From this point on the phone will not roam outside the local Lycamobile Swiss network.
To disable this option and re-enable roaming just go back and select "Automatic" instead of "Manual" on the third step above.
