And here from their terms and conditions, which is open to some interpretation in the English version:

Thanks. I had seen that part, but I thought it was a standard disclaimer they use. It was working last year for me (with another lyca sim) hence I was asking for others' feedbacks.
Thanks. I tried too. I could activate "Personal Hotspot" but no wifi accessible (I did not even have the option to set wifi password etc., as I read online). Is it the same situation like yours?
Activate the WiFi Hotspot and set a custom password or use the one generated by phone .

Exactly here I did not have the option to do so. I could activate "Personal Hotspot", then it asked me about bluetooth which I switched on too....but in no way a password for wifi can be set...
Do you subcribe the "surf" package? I have no package currently. Could it be the reason?
This is my screen on the Personal Hotspot. As you can see, it is turned on now and said discoverable. Yet, I was not asked about the wifi password whatsoever but only about turning on bluetooth or using USB. When my ipad gets connected, I can't use wifi...Could anyone enlighten me?
I can normally use my iphone to surf. I read somewhere on other threads that mobile internet of Lycamobile can be activated. Do I need to do it? I think it is the last thing I haven't tried...
The only thing that I can think about is the roaming issue with lycamobile, it could be that iphones do not allow tethering when using roaming data or in this case what is called "national roaming".
It is an issue which has been discussed here , although in this case was not confirmed in the test.
I phoned customer support today after I've unsuccessfully tried to connect my android phone to two otherwise functioning VPNs (with the built-in client)
It looks to me like they're blocking VPNs, too - which might effectively hide the fact that you're tethering
They confimed that they do not allow using your phone as a wifi router
I told them I will cancel my subscription - as a professional user doing critical support I do need to be able to connect to VPNs and with my laptop any any time while hitting the road.
Still, I found a way to get around that restriction (and to completely encrypt my traffic on top of that):
Needed:
- A remote access via ssh to any server out there. This can be bought by very little money - just look for VPS, virtual server offerings
- Server Auditor, one of the many ssh clients for Android
- Ad-hoc wifi activated (your phone becomes a wifi router like this)
Your ssh client needs to be able to do "dynamic port forwarding" which is also known as SOCKS proxy server. On the command line that would equal to
ssh -D : user@server
e.g.
ssh -D 192.168.43.1:9999 user@server
Your laptop can now connect to the wifi on the phone
What you now need to do, and this varies depending on the OS/Browser couple you're using, is setting the proxy to be
- enabled
- type SOCKS
- pointing to e.g. 192.168.45.1 port 9999
Enjoy surfing the web with stealth tethering. For Lycamobile's point of view you are connected with your phone to a server via ssh and there's traffic on this link. Of course, if all of a sudden your usage is bursting, they will detect this as an unusual pattern. Ramp up slowly!
The AU policy state that they will cut your connection even if they suspect you of tethering - no proof required
Generally speaking mobile carriers prevent end users of their services
from using their mobile as a hotspot via way of a mobile service internet profile that gets installed on your device. This is generally only used on iPhones from my experience. As some windows mobile, and android devices are free to use lycamobile as a hotspot as they see fit
so short story:
do you have an iPhone: hotspot = NO
do you have android, windows mobile, blackberry, other: hotspot = YES
The easiest thing to do is to get a WIFI router, stick in lycamobile sim card.
Voila internet access for all your devices. (yeah i know not handy)
