thanks!
Hi everyone, I'm looking forward to experiencing Escalade here in Geneva - in particular smashing the chocolate marmite. I'd like to bring a marmite home to my family at Christmas, but they are just so expensive (one large enough to share around, anyhow)..does anyone know if they go on sale after Escalade at Coop or Migros to get rid of their leftover stock?
Yes, you can usually get some the day after the Escalade, typically at 50%, but they won't keep them for more than a day or two.
and unless you get the tiny ones they are a bugger to travel with... there is nothing like arriving at your destination with a pre-smashed marmite ( trust me ) and trying to explain what this mess of chocolate and marzipan was supposed to be.
Am I being dim? Smashed chocolate and marzipan? Marmite is savoury and a thick sticky black gloop. And I'm pretty sure it's native country is Britain.
Found in all shops and the M1.
"Savoy tried to storm the city. Mère Royaume, a plucky housewife, tipped her steaming cauldron of hot soup over the heads of the soldiers scaling the city’s walls. The assault was repulsed. To commemorate this victory, the Genevois stage a procession and devour pots (“marmites” in French) of chocolate, filled with vegetables made of marzipan. Sounds delicious to me!"
thread title made me wonder what the heck Marmite had to do with the Escalade, but reading the body of the post clarified that
thank you! I think I'll buy one of the small 5 fr ones before just to make sure I have one, and then cross my fingers to grab a cheaper one Monday after.
And sorry for the name confusion - I had the same problem a few weeks ago when I started seeing the marmites...but it's true, you really can't go wrong with smashed chocolate and marzipan!
thanks for the warning - I have space in my carry-on and am bringing back several other fragile items, so if I can get the 50% discount I may give it a go!
I'm travelling to the UK for the weekend and have a Marmite, fairly big one, which will travel with me. I bought it "non-garni" and bought the filling (marzipan vegetables) separately. Security at the airport will be concerned if there are crackers in the filling. I've done this before and the Marmite has survived to be destroyed by my nephews in the UK.
