Hello everyone,
I wanted to ask if any of you are a swiss national who did their marriage ceremony outside of Switzerland and later tried to register it in your canton? if so, how did the process go? How long does it usually take all together?
I have contacted the swiss embassy abroad right after my wedding and they verified all my marriage documents and attested them which took around 3 months ( little bit more).
And now finally the Etat Civil of Vaud received all the verified documents. How long does it take once the papers are in Switzerland?
I believe the process is different for a non-swiss and for a swiss national.
If any of you could explain how their process go, it’d be really helpful.
Thank you in advance!
Can take six months or more, and if the bride is swiss she risks losing her citizenship.
More like a year for us, but same shit happened when our friend's sister married a German in Germany, so he knew what to do.
Long, and problematic.
Tom
Hello,
Thank you for your answer.
Where did you get the information that if the bride is swiss, she risks loosing her citizenship? I doubt there is still this kind of inequality between swiss men and women since 1992.
Thank you for your input.
What is it that you need? Why not just ask the Etat Civil how long it will take?
It might depend on where outside of Switzerland/EU that you got married, and the nationality of your non-EU spouse.
As an American who married a Swiss in the USA, the paperwork went fairly fast. We sent our marriage certificate, etc. through the consulate in the USA, who sent it to Bern. I had my B-permit within a few weeks of getting married.
Thank you for your answer. I did ask Etat Civil and got no replies.
That's what the papers said.
Tom
Tom, you got married a long time ago and even had the unique situation where you were considered married but your spouse wasn’t! Times have changed. Even the info from my marriage is dated at this point in terms of the rules.
A Swiss woman no longer automatically loses her citizenship just by marrying a non-Swiss.
