Masters Degree in Graphic Design

Hi All,

My wife wanted to ask if anyone knew of any Masters degree in Graphic Design programs in Swtizerland (in English), or any extension/online degree programs anyone has taken. I read on EF that there are lots of Graphic Designers here, so hopefully someone might be able to shed more light on this.

She is looking for specialization in Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator- that type of thing.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

It's all about your portfolio. A degree in graphic design is sufficient. Masters in GD in my opinion would be pointless and waste of time/$.

How can I put it gently...let me just say that you don't do a Masters for that type of thing. GD is lot more than knowing PS,AI,ID etc. It's about the design process baby and being a guru of software is only 5% of the actual design process.

It would be more helpful if you tell me exactly what she has done before. What kind of work does she want to do in the future?

I have some excellent books on my bookshelf on those very packages. Sometimes it might be cheaper to brush up on specific technical skills simply by using books rather than sitting through a degree? The classroom in a book series from Adobe are very good...

Also if she is looking for online or correspondence courses (i.e. not courses in Switzerland) then this site might be the best place for the question - I've had loads of responses to questions there in the past, but I hope she has thick skin :-)

Thanks for your responses. I'm 'the wife' who is asking the graphic design questions. I do not have a bachelor's degree in Graphic Design, but am self taught in PhotoShop, InDesign, Illustrator, etc. I have a bachelor's degree in Technical Writing with a computer programming minor.

I have worked as a Graphic Designer and Technical writer, but I do not have an extensive portfolio. I thought perhaps a graduate degree would give me the credentials to be taken seriously.

If any of you are out there in the Graphic Design field without GD degrees, how did you break in to it? (I prefer the creative end as opposed to coding and technical aspects, etc.) Are there many opportunities here in Switzerland? I am currently working towards my C-Permit, and am researching future options.

You'll find a million threads on that subject at the forum I linked in my last post (without the Swiss part though). If there's two of you there, please use separate accounts (which you already have), it's becomes a little confusing talking to two people with the same account.
