Maternity Hospital in Zurich

Hi All

One of my friend is looking for a maternity hospital in Zurich, She's living near Oerlikon.

Thanks for your suggestions..

Thanks

RR

As we are expecting very soon, I know of the following hopsitals:

Trimli: http://www.stadt-zuerich.ch/content/.../en/index.html

Zurich Hospital: http://www.geburtshilfe.usz.ch/

Hirslanden Klinik (there's 2 of them in Zürich, the Klinik im park and the Other Hirslanden Klinik): http://www.hirslanden.ch/global/en/h...irth_baby.html

As this is going to be our first baby, I have absolutly no experience in any of these places, but I have read from this forum and from friends that the Hirslanden Kiliniks are very good.

The Hirslanden is a fantastic hospital, in fact its that good I am going back to have my second there soon.

Coming from the UK it is more like a hotel with medical benefits. The staff are friendly and extremely helpful, everyone spoke English, particularly if it was medical information and you had to understand.

Hirslanden are private hospitals though. Your friend needs to check whether all or some of their services are covered by her health insurance. That depends on the level of care she opts for (the "hotel with medical benefits" service comes at a price), and her level of health insurance. She also needs to make sure the newborn has health insurance from birth (ie it has to be arranged beforehand).

I had a baby in Hirslanden which was fantastic, the nurses were so helpful and it was like stopping in a hotel.. unfortunately it is a private hospital so it depends on your insurance policy. A few friends have given birth at the University hospital and Triemli and all had a very good experience.

Thanks all for sharing your experiences.. however I've heard that in Tremli spital, they've more caesarian deliveries .. Is it true? My friend want a normal delivery since she has no health problems.. any comment?

Triemli cesarean rates are average, not high. I'm a birth doula and have been to Triemli Hospital several times. I suggest that your friend takes part at the "Informationsverantstaltung" of the hospitals she's interested in. There, she can ask all her questions. Or she can arrange for a tour through the birth rooms (on request).

Zollikerberg Hospital is great, really great!

Why do you say Zollikerberg is great? I visited all 3, and decided on Zollikerberg (also due to a recommendation from my doctor) but I'm interested to hear about your experience! I don't speak German, so I'm really nervous that there will be a language barrier.

I've been to Triemli, had two Cesarians but both times they tried to wait as long as possible without endangering my child.

I don't see why I should chose one of the expensive private hospitals when the doctors are just as good and experiences in a public hospital - and the hotellerie is not that bad actually, tasty meals and upgrades are always possible if a room is available.

I can really recommend Hirslanden. Excellent staff and medicine.

Also, Zollikerberg is not private Hospital :-)

Eish! Them South african owned hospitals we hate so much!...

Absolutely agree the doctors are probably as good but if you have private insurance to cover it the Hirslanden is outstanding, our 2 boys arrived there and the rooms and staff were amazing.
