Maternity leave question

Hi everyone,

I have a few maternity leave questions and couldn't find answers in the Forum. I also wrote to some swiss Offices that deals with maternity leave here but still didn't get any reply so I thought to try my luck here

I have been working in a bank since May 2013 and will go on maternity leave in the beginning of December. Since we are a very small bank we don't have an HR department dealing with These issues.

Here are my questions:

1. I read that in order to receive 80% salary during the maternity leave I must be insured by the AHV for the nine months prior to the birth. I came to switzerland only in January 2013 and insured only since May 2013 (when started working).

Does that mean I won't receive any compensation during my maternity leave or do I get it in accordance to my working period?

2. What are the rules regarding going back to work after 14 weeks and breastfeeding? How many hours does the workplace have to give me for breastfeeding?

Thank you for your answers

Who deals with your salary payments and social stoppages? They should have some insight on how you will be paid (or not paid).

With regard to your question about 14 weeks maternity leave and breast-feeding, I think that was pretty comprehensively answered the last time you asked ...

This document might answer a lot of your questions.

Thank you, I read this document a few times but unfortunately, it doesn't answer my questions...

The way to confuse a blond pregnant woman is to ask her:

"Is it yours?"

= 8 months working

Does that answer it?

I'm not sure... on one Hand, I'm working for more than 5 months but on the other Hand I have AHV only for 7 months (and not 9 months as required) so I'm not sure if I'll get 80% compensation or less or nothing...

You have to pay AHV even when you do not work. Your AHV obligations may have been paid with your Husbands AHV contributions.

Contribuitons to social security in EU and EFTA stats may contribute to the nine months of AHV. http://www.bsv.admin.ch/themen/eo/00...x.html?lang=de

(Not available in english, but this site has also information for your empolyer)

Look again at the SECO quote in Sandgrounder's post. It's clear -- you need to be insured for at least 9 months prior to taking maternity leave in order to receive payments. Less than 9 months -- no payments.

Hi again,

I got some formal answers to my questions and I thought to let you know this important Information:

1. Public Holidays during maternity leave are included in the 14 weeks.

2. C-Section does not prolong the maternity leave period.

3. In order to get 80% salary during the 14 weeks, the mother has to work at least 5 months and must have an AHV insurance for at least 9 months.

In Switzerland, your AHV insurance starts according to the date written on the permit.

4. A mother who goes back to work while breastfeeding must get 50% of the time it takes her to breastfeed as working time.

For example- If it takes an hour to go home, breastfeed and come back to work, then half an our should be counted as working time.

If I find out anything else I'll let you all know.

Thank you very much for your help and comments.
