Folks
Need to buy a new mattress for folks who will be coming over in 3rd week of March.
Went to the furniture store in Germany who said they need 8-10 weeks prior notice for delivery (which sounds quite crazy).
So am wondering what is the best option to buy a good quality mattress.
Is the price differential between CH and Germany very significant when it comes to good quality mattresses?
Is there a specific brand I should consider?
Any views on IKEA mattresses?
Any advise or ideas will be very welcome.
Cheers
p.s. I did check the forum for potential advise and only post that this thread..... )
Hi there,
Is it a mattress you/your guests will be using for a long time?
If it is for occasional use (e.g. visitors), I wouldn't have a second thought about IKEA mattresses. However, if you are seeing it as a long term (comfort) investment, I would wait for the input of more mattress-experienced EF users.
Also, judging from the difference in prices between Germany and Switzerland in pretty much everything, I would assume this includes mattresses as well.
We have IKEA mattresses and I don't like them. I find they collapse at the sides and generally I don't find them comfortable. I'm big though, so that might be a consideration. The most comfortable mattress I've slept on is my one in London by Hypnos. As Ferris Bueller once said, "if you have the means, I highly recommend picking one up"
I got the Ikea Hesseng Mattress

Its awesome, i use a ikea Kungsmenyta as well , this one can be cleaned
in a normal washing machine

I give them a 10/10
The only downside of the Mattress is its weight , its 37 Kg
We have Ikea mattresses on our beds here and like them so much we recently bought one in the UK too - the higher end sprung ones I forget what they're called. You can also get a memory foam "topper" on one style I think.
They come rolled so are (relatively) simple to transport if you put the car seat down, but are flipping heavy.
They are comfortable - perhaps on the firm side, but who wants a saggy mattress!
According to a Kassensturz testing of
mattresses in 2013, you can get a good one for 2-300 francs.
Thanks. I did check all threads ahead of posting.
The search query listed mostly for sale mattresses.
But I did see some good threads on advise.
You could always bob over to Conforama who have 2-3 week delivery, or if you're in Zurich, there's a really nice bed shop opposite CS Tower in Oerlikon.
Wolke 7 Singen
thats where i got mine. yes they are a bit pricy (by german standards), but even though they said 6-8 weeks for delivery, they emailed me 2 weeks later saying that its ready for collection
