Hi, I’m looking to paint some MDF but I’m having trouble finding anything recommended for sealing MDF, in the UK I’d just buy ‘Sanding Sealer’ but I cant find anything saying suitable for MDF, I’m searching for Grundierung, Isolier-Grundierung and MDF-Versiegelung theres some which might work but I’d rather find somethign specifically for MDF like this
https://www.rustins.ltd/rustins/our-…dry-mdf-sealer
from a brick n mortar store ideally so I can do it this weekend.
any recommendations?
I’ve heard good things about using Edding Permanent Spray to use as a primer over MDF before re-painting it. It’s a spray primer:

I’ve seen it sold at Jumbo and the old Coop Bau & Hobbies (that are now Jumbo). OBI probably has it as well.
I’ve also heard good things about using chalk paint (Kreidefarbe in German) to paint directly on MDF furniture, but then you have to use a special chalk paint wax on top of that. I guess that with chalk paint, there’s no need to first use a primer / grundierung. I guess chalk paint can basically cover anything. But I haven’t tried it yet.
You could also try asking at the paint desk at a place like OBI, for what you should use as a primer on MDF. They’re usually quite helpful there.
Special MDF primer might be an American thing were they sell the very same ibuprofen in various bottles as a special remedy against headache, back pain, muscle ache, or menstrual pain.
Read on the tin if it is suitable for MDF (can fill large pores) and make sure your primer is compatible with your top paint.
For Inside/Outside:
Lugato Deep Primer Best Base 1 L
Most acrylic primers will do the job. Like this one:
HORNBACH Acryl Multigrund weiss 2 l
It depends a bit on whether you plan a clear or coloured fina coat and the application - indoors / outdoors etc.
Cheers, I just realised I searched for MDF sealant, but not MDF primer, looks like Bauhaus is getting a visit
