Hi
Has anyone ever had to get a medical certificate for cycling fitness in order to register for a cyclosportive?
I want to enter the Grand Fondo Roma in Rome in October but it seems like you need to bring a medical certificate to collect your race number.
Thanks
Sportive in Switzerland? And you reside here?
Last one I did specified that Swiss residents didn't need to bring a certificate .. But French residents did. To race around Lake Geneva.
Edit:
My bad .. I didn't read .. Sorry!
1. visit your doctor
2. ask him for a certificate of fitness for cycle racing
3. post it to Grand Fondo Roma
4. am I missing something?
Lol! You make it sound so simple. You've done this before? How much did it cost?
It's in Italy... make one yourself, preferably in German or any less common language in Italy, print it, sign it completely illegibly, give "Dr. Pepper" as address and put a potatoe stamp on it?
It is simple, it costs around CHF 100,-- Have you asked your doctor? He would know.
Ah, those wonderful EF anarchists...
From what you say, I'm assuming that Italian law is close to French, in which case this is a big deal, due to the very different liability law compared to the UK. i.e. Organizer is legally liable if participating cyclist drops dead without a valid medical certificate. So, take it seriously if you do not want to miss your big day.
I can only suggest that you follow Sbrinz advice (why did someone groan it?) and pay whatever it takes for Swiss medical care.
PS I have suffered heavily from this when organizing a 20 nation sports event in France. It was a nightmare rushing around doctors at the last minute trying to get certificates for disbelieving athletes. No one ran without a certificate.
Thanks!
Does the medical certificate have an expiry date? Or in other words can I use it for other cycling/running events in future years as well or do you keep having to go back to the doctor for a new one?
For tone, as always. It's all very blindingly obvious to someone who has done it before, I'm sure, but for someone who hasn't, does it really hurt to explain witho the snark?
If they are anything like the fit to scuba dive check up then its 100-120 takes about 15mins and lasts 1 year
Last six months here. Still annoying if you only race occasionally... Oh if you do any other sports, be sure to get the others mentioned for the same price on the same bit of paper.
