Hi all.
I've reached a point where it would be extremely helpful to have my old medical records transferred from the UK. This morning, I've spoken to my old health centre where I was registered since birth, and they were very helpful, but informed me that my records were transferred to another surgery that I only visitied twice whilst living down south.
The latter surgery are, point blank, refusing to forward my medical records. I've been searching all over the NHS site and appear to be hitting a brick wall with finding accurate information about this.
Has anyone else managed to have their records forwarded after moving to Switzerland, and how did you go about it please?
Not from the UK, from other countries yes. In one case they gave me a CD with data, another time they contacted my then GP and sent him all by mail.
Yes. Called the surgery I was signed up with, told them what I wanted. They photocopied my medical records (which apparently belong to the Health Secretary). I sent them a cheque (it was a while ago!) to cover their costs, and they sent me the records via registered post.
Hi,
I'm not sure if all surgeries are on this: https://www.patientaccess.com but if you get a form from your surgery with your access code (if it needs to be picked up a friend can do it with your authorisation) you should have access to your full medical history. I say should because for one of my children it was incomplete, full for the rest of us.
Once there, you can download a PDF file or a .csv file to share
Good luck
Fantastic link. Thanks!
I've emailed to practice as they are closed now, and hope they will respond favourably to providing me with a registration letter.
Thanks again
Similar to above, I requested a copy, paid 5 quid each for copying etc, and picked them up a few days later. They're your records, refusing to let you have a copy isn't, er, cricket.
To update:
I sent an email to the practice requesting my medical files and offering payment for any costs incurred. After reading the post from ShotgunMove, I resent the email requesting a letter to access my records via https://www.patientaccess.com .
Late yesterday , I received a reply to my original email requesting that I send scans of my ID over to them. However, this morning, I've received a reply to the second email with my entire medical records attached. So, thank you again to ShotgunMove for the link as it appears to have been a game changer, and to everyone who took the time to respond. It's appreciated.
Just one little thing left to resolve... The records held before computerisation, appear to be a synopsis, and the two particular medical references / terms I required aren't present, but it's still a blessed relief to have the bulk of the info to hand. I'm sure my Swiss G.P. can fill in the gaps.
For any Brit who finds themselves in need of the same information in future, my last UK G.P. has now emailed to say that, old written records can be sourced via this site...
