MeteoSuisse new website - awful

In 1990, Jörg Kachelmann was the founder of Meteocentrale (which I do like), but he's not part of it any more, dropped out some time last year.

In late 2013 he announced his own new meteo service, domicilated in Sattel SZ, to be launched online around spring 2014, but maybe that was yet another example of him talking a bit too big. Any news out there?

It is not.

As an aside, I have found that many Swiss web designers distinctly dislike what they perceive as "American" designs (i.e. anything done, or thought to be done, by an American company, regardless of whether it's good or not), and thus re-invent the wheel, sometimes well, often very poorly, or discarding good ideas simply because they're "American", forcing them to be replaced with something more "unique", even if it's worse...

I don't think I want to go back to web design...

My experience is they lack an understanding of UI/UX...

Which is good as it means they have to employee me instead

--To be fair its a much better site on mobile then on desktop..they just need to update the app now.

Agree....don't like the new one at all. Was so much easier to type in 8134 and get the weather forecast for the week. Oh well.

Indeed, this is a good example of a web redesign failure, a redesign done in a hurry! The new site is very user unfriendly.

I can get "info" for my commune except that their weather forecasts for my area are repeatedly incorrect

Flawed in design, very confusing (poorly tested?), features not always functional...

And the site is down right now just when we really need it

you now can do so again

Switzerland is so small, the weather doesn't change from village to village.

Of course it does, if one village is 300m higher or on the other side of the hill.

Yes of course, but you know what I wanted to say

No really. We’ve been fogbound for 3 days sometimes, yet you go down the down a kilometer and no fog at all. Giviziez which is lower than us (about 5kms away) got snow at the weekend, but all we had was rain. So yeah, it can vary from village to village.

I don't. Care to clarify?

Another vote for meteocentrale.ch It's the most-least-least accurate one that I've come across.

Exactly. We had brillant sunshine yesterday morning but once we crossed over the bridge into canton Bern it was really thick fog. It was really foggy all the way down the side if lake Murten as far as Vully -les-lacs and then it magically cleared and it was beautiful again in Avenches.

We drove back up the other side of the lake and it was clear as far as Ins and was then thick fog all the way back to the canal and then clear again over the other side. A few hundred metres can make a real difference around these parts.

No snow yet here but there were a few solitary flakes falling a couple of minutes ago.

Okey, so for me it's only important if it's cold, very cold , warm or very warm. Or if there's a storm or what ever, or it's raining the whole day. I mean of corse there can be fog or something.. but I know that you cannot exactly say what the weather is like in every village, because the weather stations are not located in very small villages. Or if there is one, then you won't find it on meteoschweiz. But If you want to know the weather that exactly, then yes: it's not a good Website.

this would be useful to someone from North Korea! Someone who has never left their village!

- no, not really! Thank goodness!

fadelli1234, what the F*** are you fluffing about? We don't need to read your rubbish!

I explained Patxi my opinion, that's all.

So if it's cold or very cold in some village in Bern it will more or less be cold or very cold in some village in Ticino? Makes sense. Good to know.

Right. When there is snow in the higher up parts of Adliswil there is None at the rail-station. There can be snow on the Egg in Wollishofen but None around the lake

My recommendation goes to SRF Meteo

You can also set the city (on the top input field)
