MFK no show

Just few days before planned MFK I decided not to invest into my old car, and dump it for a few hundreds to export dealers.

I would like to use it for another months till I buy a new one.

I am not sure what to do, call to strassenverkehrsamt and tell the story or simply ignore it till I sell the car. I am afraid if I tell them that I am not going to do MFK, they will ban me from using the car immediately.

Any advice would be appreciated.

If it's the first appointment you were offered, just tell them you can't make it and ask for a new one. Assuming you're only talking about one month, that is. If there's a number missing from your post, and it's more than 2 or so, this approach will not work.

Also note that if you're aware of reasons it would fail, i.e. the car's not roadworthy, it would be be a good idea not to continue using it anyway.

If you want to play the system to squeeze a few more months out of the car...

1) Ignore the MFK letter and don't turn up for your appointment.

2) You will receive a second MFK letter, this time by registered mail. Do not ignore this one .

3) When you receive the second letter, immediately call the MFK testing agency and reschedule the appointment. You can reschedule for up to three months from the date of the second letter.

You'll need to dispose of the car before the MFK appointment. Driving after that date without an MFK is an offense.

Many thanks, this is exactly what I wanted.

My car is safe to drive, but will not pass MFK without investment of 1K which I am not willing to do.

If its a few days before the MFK you will get a bill. Time limit to cancel FOC is a week.

4 work days. There's nothing I can do about it, I guess I will get the bill in that registered mail.

I was able to change my free-of-charge online just two days ahead of the scheduled date (it was predicted to snow heavily and I didn't want to take the car out).

I think only the first re-schedule is free, after that there's a fee payable.

Mmm I had to pay around 60chf when I had to cancel at short notice of 4 days

Update -- we missed our MFK and I've learned a thing or two in the process.

First, two days after the missed appointment, we got a second invitation letter via A-Post Plus (basically, tracked delivery without a signature). It 'assumed' we missed our appointment due to some error (how quaint!):

We were charged a CHF60- cancellation fee in addition to the CHF60- test fee.
