Mieterverband vs Asloca

Are Mieterverband and Asloca at all related? It seems not to be just a case of one org with two language names, they seem to be completely separate organisations with their own territory on which the other may not tread...

So much advice on this forum says to join Mieterverband yet a friend I know who had trouble with her apartment and went to Asloca did not give a great review.

Does anyone have experience with both?

Do they differ in how they do things? Better/worse service?

ASLOCA is the name on the French side.

Mieterverband is the name on the German side.

The association in each canton will provide varying services. I think some MVs on the German side accompany you during handovers. I know that the Neuchatel ASLOCA did not offer this service.

I have been told that they have fewer members, fewer staff, less long-term experience, less negotiating clout and higher fees than the Mieterverband / ASLOCA.
