Migros cooperative consolidation

The gossip of the day requires a gossip source:

Plan to merge the current 10 Migros cooperatives into a single one. Get rid of zero marginal productivity workers, save money and the organization.

Vote probably next year. The change is approved with all 100 cooperatives voting Yes and 2/3 of YES votes.

Wait a min, how this came to be? How an organization that doesn’t have to yield profit ends up being defeated by for-profit organizations? Migros Zürich loosing 2 billion CHF while fooling around in Germany.

Migros Zürich is about 1/3 of the Migros capital and it has the employees doing vital functions for other Migros cooperatives (supplier management, logistics, IT). So, that’s why the other 9 cooperatives can’t let Migros Zürich collapse and remain open, they’re not independent.

What changes in daily Swiss life?

  • Hundreds of middle managers with a cozy corporate life about to work on their CVs.
  • An oncoming tidal wave of complaints about how the job market does not value middle managers.

Indeed, nothing new.

Whatever happens, we can be sure that foreigners can be blamed for this

Sooner or later it will become Galaxus.
