Truthfully, how much of your weekly grocery shopping is for alcohol if you are buying for a family?
Of course, I still grumble when I can't find white wine to make fondue...
One day, in the "yet" future, when Migros stocks alcohol and cigarettes, people will be complaining about it. "This used to be a real family shop ..... where my children were never confronted with piles of alcohol bottles, and cigarettes and tobacco things ....... What is the world coming to? Why can`t they keep alcohol and cigarettes seperate, like in the olden days?"
I was about to say the same thing! I do like to shop around.
Honestly, I never even noticed they don't sell alcohol in Migros - I am obviously far too infrequent a home drinker for it to bother me.
I also wondered why, after several bottles of their fizzy celebration "wine", the only effect I was experiencing, was sugar-rush ....... doh!
Migros don't sell cocaine or virgins either.
It's a disgrace, I tell you.
At least you didn't do anything embarassing and try to blame it on the alcohol before your realised. ( I assume )
As you can see,there's still a number of people who like to discuss about things that others may have been discussing years back,so what's the problem? if you don't like it,just head somewhere else and let it be...it'll have its natural Ending,it's just an easy discussion...

Source . The philosophy was to sell more affordable food by cutting away the middle men. Dutti did not want to use is market force to sell cheap tobacco or alcohol. On the other hand you can get "expensive alcohol" for ex you can buy Kirschstängeli or Fonduemixes at Migros.
That is one reason why you find a Denner near a Migros. That store provided the cheap tobacco, alcohol and brand name products that you could not find at Migros. Funnily, Denners are now owned by Migros.

When I first joined here, about 5 years ago, I didn`t have a clue how this forum worked, so I scrolled thru threads and found an interesting one, and posted on it.
Mein Gott!!! I got bombarded with "red blob things" and people making horrible remarks about how lazy I am, and suggesting I "stop gazing at my navel" (never forgot THAT one ) and saying I`d regurgitated an ancient old thread that had died.
Then I tried to amuse myself with the games here, but was not allowed access to them, and asked "why?". Got bombarded again - I`ve got "No Reputation". Huh? I asked what a "reputation" is, (I thought I already had one, garnered over a long life) - same reaction - more red blobs.
And you know what? That "ancient old thread" (about smoking - hahaaaa) turned out VERY popular! Carried on for pages ..... everyone forgot that it was ME who`d ressurected it!
They never give you credit for anything here, you gotta work for it!

Actually,I think they can,cause they're doing it...but I never saw anything so dangerous in selling good wine bottles or Beers in a Shop,cause to me the dangerous thing is not that the children could be confronted to stuff that Adult people use,like they use their coca cola(which i hope you won't tell me it's safer...)but that the parents still have to educate them to know the difference between things,and everything will be alright...or at least,that was my experience with this issues..I accept the politics of a Supermarket,it was just strange to me,as an immigrant,to know by others who are here longer than me,if they knew why....it's not a real sad and angry complaint,it's just curiosity...
Actually, interesting as newbies are shunned when they do not use the search function, or start a new thread when there is a old one lingering in the abyss of the EF. You can not do it the right way no matter how you do it
IMHO there is no such thing as an old or dead threat. If somebody thinks the topic interesting, he is curious, and thinks it is relevant right now, he may post in any old thread he wants. I am more amused when forum veterans then will reply to the very old posts from back then.
I think it's pretty safe to say that Coca-Cola is safer than alcoholic drinks, by and large.

I do too,when some veteran brings an experince that newcomers may not have..but to say "you're new,we're old,that's it,face it,end" i'm sorry,it's not a reply,it's an order...and i'm not used to say"yes,sir" anyway..if that's fine with you,just go on.....and by the way,i see just about any kinda post,from the most importants to the most silly ones,here,so i thought it was not a problem....
Which might not be unrelated to the fact that there's nearly always a Denner within just a few metres of any larger Migros. Honestly, to me it's just like they're two departments, as is, for example, the Migros do-it which you'll usually find on another floor of the Migros. In larger ones, at any rate.
Also worth noting that some of the smallest Migros shops, labelled Migros Partner, are actually run as franchises and therefore not restrained in the same way. We've a small one in Engelberg like this, sells a reasonable range of beers, wines and spirits, and competes well with the much larger co-op it's opposite.

Suchard, Cardbury's, Rowntree and so many other great business people refused to sell alcohol and tobacco, and fight against the ravages of alcoholism. In the UK it was the Quakers, in CH it was the Blue Cross. Chocolate products were actually developed in order to fight against alcohol abuse. I remember the days when Marks and Spencers did not accept cheques or credit cards, as they thought it would encourage people to get into debt. Even Thomas Cook, who was the first to organise group travel, did so originally for the Temperance Society - who also fought against alcoholism and tried to organise inteesting family activities to keep the men our of the pub. I admire those who do stand by their principles, even if I don't personally embrace them myself.
Learning about the history of the whys and therefores of some actions can be very interesting - and stop you feeling so 'angry' perhaps.
Denner and Migros used to be two very separate businesses in competition until fairly recently. So when Migros took over is was difficult to a/ move the shops to be further apart and b/ to stop Denner shops selling alcohol, as they'd always done so. Nothing hypocritical there, just common sense.
I don't think there's a problem with the topic, but that you started a discussion on it in such an ignorant and aggressive way. Asking about the background of why the situation exists would, I'm sure, have elicited much fewer negative responses, and the ones giving you a link to previous discussions on the topic should be more than enough to fill your knowledge gap.
You need to recognise what sort of post you're making - if it's a request for information then fine, and a reasonable conversation may ensue, but if it's just a shout out about why you think something is WRONG then get used to the fact that your posts will be reacted to in the way that this one was.
Thats' twice you've capitalised alcohol. It must be very important to you.
