Minimal salary requirements, L permit, 2nd year

Dear all,

Did search through the forum, but could not find a clear answer. Would appreciate your comments, or referral to an existing post, if there was one.

My situation is the following. I am now on a 12 month L residence permit + on a permanent employment contract. L permit is expiring in August 2014. Company situation has changed and we are now discussing reducing the workload from full time to part time for another 6-12 month period.

Two questions I have:

1. Is there minimal wage requirement (due to reduced workload) that we need to worry about for L permit renewal? We are in Zurich. Would this be canton dependent?

2. When does the employer need to notify administration, if the conditions change after the official L permit renewal date?

Thanks a lot in advance!

This is most likely canton dependent. In Bern the minimum salary needed for a work permit is 2500 a month in bruttolohn - the number is based on the cost of living in this canton and reflects what authorities believe is the minimum for a single adult to get by on without being in danger of relying on sozialhilfe. I'd ask the local authorities - they will be able to tell you if there is a minimum income requirement in place.

Don’t know the answer to 2, but yes I would think you should be worried about not earning enough.

The concensus in this thread seems to be that the OP isn’t earning as much as the authorities would like and may not get her B permit renewed.

Strange situation with B Permit Renewal…

If you have dependents, then they’ll be even more concerned about how much you’re going to be earning under the new conditions.

Thank you!

My situation is L permit, which is short term residence, not B permit.

For the sake of Swiss authorities, I do not have dependents, just by myself.

Thank you, will ask locally about minimal wage requirements. I do not think, sozialhilfe is applicable for the L permit. May be wrong on this, though.

No, from what I’ve read on the forum unfortunately it’s not.

For those, who might be interested in the outcome. We talked to the immigration service. Part time work is not allowed. Full time contracts only.

Ideally, L permit needs to be renewed under same contract with same conditions.

Minimal wage question does not apply in this case. I would think that if contract changes significantly, there needs to be new application for a new L permit.
