I was wondering if I checked out a mobility car and drove from A to B, and had a mobility station, could I park the car from A at the B station, free of charge, until I am ready to return? I don't think I can check it back in temporarily but I can't see why I can't park there. To any parking inspector or mobility employee it should just look like any other mobility car. Has anyone tried this?
Although you might get away with it, this could cause problems if the person driving the Mobility car that belongs in spot B tries to return their car at the same time and finds the spot occupied.
I haven't tried this, but I personally would be greatly annoyed if I checked out a Mobility car, used it for what I needed, then came back to park it and found another car in the spot - unless there was still a 'free' Mobility spot.
I'd probably be so annoyed that I'd park the other Mobility car in, lock the one I'd hired, and walk away ...
Good points! I didn't realise they had assigned spots. So far every time I've walked past a Mobility place it's had about 4 free spots for every car there.
check the rates too. It's usually cheaper to rent with Hertz or Avis if you're going from A to B. The mileage charges on Mobility might eat you alive depending how far you are going.
If you only need the car for a few hours, but plan on driving a lot of kilometers, using the Mobility Click & Drive scheme is usually a better bet. This offers the same fully-inclusive rental as the normal Mobility scheme, but with unlimited kilometers.
If you need a car for more than a few hours, you're better off renting from one of the traditional car hire agencies.
While larger Mobility stations may have a number of spots, smaller stations may have only one or two -- hence the problem if you block it with your car!
I have a feeling that you can park for free in Train Stations when using mobility. I did a quick look on the website and could see anything though. Might be worth giving them a quick call to find out.
Does anyone know if one is allowed to park their own car in the mobility car spot of the car one is renting?
I need a mobility car to transport items that are too large for my boot. I would like to drive my car and park in the mobility spot while I use the mobility rental.
Can I park my own car in the Mobility bay during my reservation?
You are permitted to park your own vehicle in the Mobility bay during your reservation, provided the bay is not in a multi-storey car park. To avoid being issued with a parking fine, please place a copy of the reservation confirmation behind the windscreen of your vehicle.
When entering a multi-storey car park in your private vehicle, you should collect a ticket as usual and park in a regular bay. You must not use the Mobility vehicle’s season parking ticket to enter and exit the car park in your own vehicle.
Important: this rule does not apply to Mobility One-Way trips. There are also stations which are exempt from this and where private vehicles may not be parked. You will find the necessary information on the reservation confirmation or in the station information.
