Model rockets...?

Anyone know the rules and regulations around flying model rockets here in Switzerland? Perhaps any swiss shops which sell the rockets and rocket engines... I live on the border and could order from Amazon possibly also, just not sure if importing is ok or not..

Hardly qualifies as a sport and more of a hobby I guess...

I have absolutely no clue, but these people should be able to help you:

I’ve been meaning to ask the same/similar question. Growing up, I built many of the Estes and related kits and improvised some other products. I still think it might be an enjoyable thing for kids.

I’ve not seen anything like them here though. Someone once told me that rocket launching was just not something that Swiss people thought about - for themselves or their children. There’s no spaceport or program history and the actual launch elements offend so many Swiss sensibilities as to be almost comical.

I’d enjoy hearing a few launches again though.

The model shop (Brick and mortar) in Hongg, http://www.wiesermodell.ch , used to carry the Estes stuff - perhaps they still do.

I launched them up on the Honggerberg shooting range, with the kids.

Your local "Modellflugverein" (model plane club) should know. Airplanes, choppers, quads, rockets, etc are all in the same legal category and subject to (essentially) the same regulations. Find out if there's one near you on the Swiss association's site .

Why not join one? Especially if you have interested kids!

Every club I've come across (sample of 5-6) has a dedicated airfield that is (very very) well kept, safe to use, and easily accessible by car. In all cases guests and people that may want to join are welcome for an extended period, they will want to "sniff out" a potential new member just much as you will want to sniff them out.
