for our upcoming move to the US, I am looking for an inexpensive way to transfer money to the US.
Did anybody open a bank account with a global bank like HBSC or citibank, and would this be the best option?
Any advice is appreciated!

i haven't figured it out yet.. but i had some money wired from other country to citi bank and i got charged everytime when money was wired.
i have citi gold but still they charge fee ($25?) to receive money.
citi global is just name. Citi in other countries are not connected to citi in US.
same as UBS (no connection between US and CH).
it seems that you will have different options depending upon frequency/amount you transfer.
most seem to prefer online site transfer over bank.
good luck
but if my account balance is over 1500 USD then this fee is waived as well
I can look up and get you more details
I go through the opposite transfer today and it is quite easy once you have accounts on both sides. As an American swiss banks don't like me but I was eventually able to find one. From my understanding the swiss banks can also be picky when a current customer moves from ch to us. I transfer money in large sums every 3 months to minimize the effect of the transfer fees ($25-$45) in my experience. Some banks only charge to send, others to receive. It is also worth watching the exchange rate offered by the sending and receiving banks as they seem to also earn 1-2% on the total amount when exchanging.
I also recently heard of a new service, tranzfers. It apparently avoids international exchange fees through a neat idea. If we can get enough interest they would open in ch and I would definitely use them. My friend live in Australia and uses them without problems.

Sorry for changing the topic a bit but,
how about transferring from Switzerland to Ireland?
What would be the best option?
Thanks
