Motorbike/Scooter licence

Hello everyone

(Apologies if this was asked already, couldn’t find a thread)

I would like to buy a 125cc scooter/moped. Everywhere I read it says that I require a A1 category for riding 125cc scooter. On the back of my swiss car driving license (issued in 2016) it says that I have A1 category, however it also says “45 km/h”. The 125cc scooters I’m looking at can go 90-100 km/h.

So could you please advise me whether my current driving licence is acceptable for such motorbike or I need to take some additional course to be able to ride it.

If it says A1 (45 km/h) than you can only drive bikes which are speed restricted to max. 45 km/h. Only a few bikes can be speed restricted. Most if not all of them are 50 ccm bikes.

To ride a an unrestricted 125 ccm (max. 11 kW) bike you need to apply for a learners permit, mount a blue L on your bike, and do the 12h basic rider training within 4 months. Done.
