Insurance rates are based on lots of factors, including where you live, how old you are, how long you've been licensed, what kind of bike you own, which options you want, etc.
There is no one insurance company that is always the cheapest. You need to decide what coverage you want and what companies you feel comfortable dealing with, then shop around for the best price.
In my case, when I first insured by bike (in 2004), I was paying about 1000 per year for full coverage. Last year, I "downgraded" my coverage to partial comprehensive, since my bike is now 7 years old. As a result, I'm now paying about 650 per year.
I have Zurich insurance for my car (Golf Gti) and I pay around 1300 CHF per year for full coverage. I think that is couple of hundreds too much but seems like I am stuck with that for a year.
For the bike to come I will also ask their offer just out of curiosity and in order to get some pleasure when turning them down
Was quoted 120chf (ish) for a 300c motorbike 3rd party and 580chf fully comp (brand new bike worth 7k+1k extras.) with Axa.
When I took out the policy April '13, Axa were the cheapest for me and when I checked in November they still were. That said I'd always ring around cos you never know
