Motorcycle licence plates

Hello all

Next week I’m taking my bike in for the technical test as part of importing it here from the UK. Paperwork all present and correct, and I have arranged proof of insurance. However they tell me the Swiss insurance is only valid once I get my Swiss plates. I no longer have UK insurance, so has anyone on here got experience of how to get the vehicle to the Strassenverkehrsamt with insurance?

I assume if I pitch without it they might find out and take a dim view. Should I find a daily insurer?

Thanks for any insight.

It either needs to be insured with a UK insurer, or you need to take it on a trailer.

Call the Strassenverkehrsamt. As far as I remember, in some cantons you can drive straight to MFK, if you have a Swiss insurance quote (Versicherungsnachweis), which you need anyway for the plates. In other cantons you can get day plates which includes the mandatory third party liability coverage. An other option is to get frontier insurance from the nearest customs office . This cost CHF 100.

If you pass inspection you get a plate, if you fail you would have to remove it on a trailer.

PS: Do not forget to bring a plate carrier, screwdriver etc.

Find a shop to take it there for you with their shop plates.

Thank you all. I think it's the day plate option for me - now I have to figure out how to replace the plate carrier!
