Motorcycle Parking - Zurich

Hi Everyone,

I have just moved form NYC to Zurich for work, and my beloved Suzuki V-strom 1000 will be joining me soon. I don't know anyone who rides in Zurich, so I have a couple of questions:

1) Street parking - where can I park, where can't I? Do I need to pay? How strict is the police with ticketing parked motorcycles?

2)Motorcycle parking garage - Do motorcycle only parking garages exist? or will I need to look for a regular car parking spot in a garage? What do people usually do?

3) After market exhaust - What are the regulation? I have 2 Brothers on. I have seen a few bikes with Remus and Yoshi so I know they are legal, but they seem tamer than what I am used to seeing in the US - or it could be just perception.

Thanks,

Alex

Pretty much anywhere - even on the path (sidewalk) as long as you leave a good 1.5 metres clear (technically illegal but 99% ignored by cops)

Usually there are sections in car parks - multistorey ones often have undercover areas for bikes only - foc.

Most likely not legal - very few are. Mostly they are used day to day but then replaced before the MFK with the originals . If you get caught with a non-type certificated one you can end up with it impounded and you walking home.

So do motorcycles have to pay for designated parking? I know that in some areas cars have to pay for parking, but does that apply to bikes as well?

By garage I meant a permanent garage (place where I would keep my bike year round when home) rather than just a parking place for a few hours or days. Does the same apply?

I can see why not, but they sure sound good

Thanks

There are many designated bike/motor bike parking spots, all over the city. Usually much easier than to park a car. And unlike in NYC chances of your bike being stolen are quite slim.

If you mean the blue residents parking then yes but usually there's somewhere near you can park for free.

The reason why the aftermarket exhausts seem tamer here is because they all (or almost all?) have a DB Killer in them. Without it they are not street legal.

You will need to check with the 2 Brothers dealer in Switzerland. Since they have a Swiss distributor, they will hopefully be able to get you the required paper for your exhaust. You will need to have a DB killer in there though, so you might have to buy that if it's available for your model.

This is from the 2 Brothers International dealers section on their website. Give them a call, see what they say. Only they can tell you

Also, since you're importing the bike, maybe you can do it without the paper for the exhaust, during the MFK test. They will have to test everything on the bike anyway to make sure it's safe and conforms to Swiss regulations, in which case, they could test the DB level of the exhaust. I know my friend's exhaust failed the test because it was too loud, so they actually have a decibel limit which can be tested. If you pass, they would write in your ownership that the bike is ok with that modification.

Adibadi,

Once I figure out how to thank people on this forum I will thank you for the post.

I did get power tip preparation for the move(supposed to drop the Db level down by ~10%) .

Will see what the 2Bros distributed and MFK test have to say
