Hello,
I live in Canada and am considering the purchase of a motorcycle in London UK. I would like to ride the bike around England and Europe for about six weeks. Would you know where and what type of insurance I need to purchase. Would there be a specific type of registration plate.
After the touring I would like to ship the bike back to Canada.
Thank-you for your help,
Spfrge
I suspect you wont be able to get insurance at all.
the Uk doesnt have a temporary plate system, you would need to have the bike registered to an address in the UK and obtain insurance based on that address. As you are a non UK licence holder the insurance costs will be quite high. Insurance compnies dont do short term insurance either - not for 6/8 weeks anyway.
The only way i can see is that if you know someone in the UK that will the registered keeper and have you as a named driver, however cancellation fees will have to be paid when the policy is cancelled.
BUT doesnt canada have some import laws that if its not a north american model it cant be imported??
Hello,
Have you tried calling around to the different insurances and inquiring about this to get different quotes ? As your requirements are so unique I think your best bet would be to call them up.
Also, not to stray away from the immediate topic but wouldn't it be more economical to rent a bike? Or is it a situation where you actually want to own a bike.
