Mountain Biking / Cycling Lugano

Hi all,

I've just moved to Lugano from London and have been enjoying getting stuck into the Ticino mountain biking!

Does anyone know of any groups or want to show me around some tracks?

I'm into downhill and cross country type riding, but with a pretty relaxed approach to both! So far I've been riding the downhill at Monte Tamaro and cross country around the Monte Bre sort of area. Both are great.

Also, does anyone know any good bike shops?

Thanks

Hi, lucky you, I love Ticino! We used to live in Lombardia so often went to Ticino biking. The Route 66 is a great ride, you can start and finish in Tesserete and do it in a day, but it'll still be snowy at the top I imagine at the minute. Also, near Mendrisio, Monte Generoso (with or without the funicular up) and Monte Bisbone provide some great trails. They're all on the Swiss Single trail map or the Kompass Ticino Sud is actually quite good for this area (Kompass maps are normally not that great for biking but often all you can get in Italy). If you can get hold of the former Monte Generoso MTB marathon route than that has greats trails up and down M. Bisone and Generoso. Or see this

Monte Lema also has some great trails, get the lift up then various trails going down into the Italian side and riding back over to CH.

Oh so jealous, but I'm in Zurich now so plenty here to explore too.

Enjoy.

As for shops (you are not spoiled for choice!), a friend suggests TAMARO BIKE SA via Cantonale, 6802 Rivera Phone: 091 946 12 90.

They have a facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/TamaroBike

Best of luck!!

I'm glad you posted. Going to look into other responses you've gotten.

to EF, annak4v!

Thank you :)

Cheers for the replies everyone, looks like there is quite a lot to explore! The Monte Generoso marathon track looks great especially.

This weekend I will have to go try finding some MTB route maps. It looks like this is a must have for here.

If anyone is up for going out for a ride this weekend give me a shout. I'll be going somewhere near Lugano. However I managed to break my bike going up Monte Boglia this evening so would be Sunday (as long as I can fix it, hopefully I can find that shop...)
