The Errol Flynn Robin Hood is one of the first color films made, AFAIK.But you're right... there is often an element of hokeyness to them...still, they are entertaining.

What I'm after are movies that you would feel comfortable watching with your children... It's a bit difficult as we all raise our kids differently but that's the closest benchmark I can think of.

There's a "racial tension" scene, as well as lots of pushing and shoving against the lockers, as well as hints towards being gay.
Enough material to put sensitive souls off for life.
Me? I quite enjoyed the film (although there is some creative licence in there vs. the real story).
