Movies with no foul language, nudity/sex scenes and violence recommendations

Each to their own.

Knowing the OP, and what a sweet soul she is, I would seriously recommend 'Spirited Away' by the Japanese director Hayao Miyazaki. Unbelievably beautiful and atmospheric, blew me away. I've watched it about four times now, and find something new every time. One of those movies that stays with you for days afterwards.

Cheers

Jim

hmm another batch of movies: Barry Lyndon ; Amadeus ; Lagaan

It's a tough one since most movies have bad language or/and nudity/sex or/and violence. Most of my favorite 'nice' movies have already been mentioned.

Loving the history of films I could give you some black and white ones, but even there you could have some kind of violence, but very-VERY mild compared to modern violence in movies.

I can think of one Icelandic film though, that hasn't been in mentioned and is very sweet (was nominated for the Oscar - best foreign film). The Children of the Nature .

There is some stuff from the 40s-50s-60s that I like to watch, although it might also have a heavy dose of corn.

People will Talk - with Cary Grant (is actually a reaction to the Hollywood black list)

Charade - Cary Grant and Audrey Hepburn

I think I already mentioned Hitchcock, but To Catch a Thief, Spellbound, and Rear Window are especially good. Never, ever watch the Birds or Psycho.

Harvey - with James Stewart - has some interesting undertones about who's crazy and who's sane

Pride of the Yankees with Gary Cooper

There's also John Sayles' more modern Eight Men out and Redford's "The Natural" if you like baseball

Political movies: All the President's Men (although it may have language issues) and Mr. Smith Goes to Washington (old, but a good look at corruption), and Dave - might have some language, but it's a really sweet film about replacing the president with a lookalike.

THe original Born Yesterday with Judy Holliday, William Holden is great.

You also might check out some of Frank Capra's stuff, although sometimes I think it's a little too hokey, but stuff like It's a Wonderful Life, Meet John Doe and there are loads of others.

Historical adaptations, Elizabeth Gaskell's North and South adapted by the BBC around 2004 with Richard Armitage.

Lots of things that were made for TV may also suit you.

Good thread. There are way too many movies that you start watching, they seem fine for kids and then they have an unnecessary rude language in there. Wedding Crashers is one example. In the movie he answers the phone with "oh F**k" - totally unnecessary. My then 2 year old wouldn't stop saying it

starwars? no real violence in them.

Oh and hans shot first

uhh---apart from Luke Skywalker, considered by some to be themost infamous mass-murderer of all time.

Oh, has anyone mentioned My Life as a Dog?

One of my favourite films . . .

You mean apart from the Earth getting demolished and everyone on it killed?

Aha. So those light sabres really are toys. Thought so .

To the OP: you might also wish to provide a brief description of what you define as foul language and (un)acceptable nudity and/or violence, unless you wish to exclude many films made post 1980...

by people who really need to get out more

Absolutely.

Each to his own I guess. I watched it as a kid and it left an impression. But I might need to re-evaluate it...

The best thing bout it is Alan Rickman's nasty bad guy.

Have you seen the 1939-ish one with Errol Flynn. Makes a much better RH, IMHO.

How about

Remember the titans

Erin Brockovich

Seabiscuit

Calendar Girls

Remember the Titans: violence

Erin Brockovich: you serious? I'm pretty certain she swears throughout the film

Calendar Girls: nudity (& the odd bit of swearing as I recall)

See what I mean? We need better definitions of how the OP defines movies with no foul language, nudity/sex scenes and violence...

There is no violence on remember the titans, They don't even tackle properly!!!

I didn't watch the Errol Flynn Robin Hood but I will if I can get my hands on it. Old black and white movies are classy but many of them are a bit slow-paced for my taste.

Im waiting to see what you say about Seabiscuit :P
