Moving from one Canton to another. Familiy Reunification or Change of Permit?

Hello!

I am seeking advice from anyone who has been in a similar situation.

My husband, a non-EU citizen with a B permit, lives and works in Geneva. I am a UK citizen, currently living and working in another canton with a B permit. We’re planning to move in together in Geneva in May/June 2025.

While I plan to look for a job in Geneva or Vaud, living together is our top priority. This means I may move to Geneva first, even if it requires me to quit my current job and risk losing my permit.

If we apply for family reunification in Geneva, will I be allowed to start living there while waiting for the Cantonal Office’s decision? What other option might we have for possible transition?

Any advice or insights would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Welcome to the forum. :slightly_smiling_face:

Yes, you can live in Geneva while waiting for a decision on family reunification.

Do you have accommodation of suffering size already in Geneva? While finding accommodation is difficult in both Cantons is difficult Vaud can be better.

what size would that be?

A cell without running water or a toilet and some torture equipment.

Well if you have not been living together up to now, I don’t see the justification for reunification…
