Moving items from CH to 2nd home in Italy

We bought a 2nd home in Italy and are wondering how we can move parts of your household without deregistering in CH.

I have experience moving my stuff, but the key document was the de-registration to avoid paying customs on your used belongings. In this case there will be no de-registration since it is a 2nd home.

Anyone has done such partial move, while keeping the residence in CH? Any idea if this works?

The only not so elegant idea would be de-registering in CH, move the stuff and register again few weeks later... but it sounds a bit weird for my taste

Just move it, and declare as used items of no value.

Does this work with designer sofas and other non-Ikea furniture?

If used, then yes.

Just in case someone tries such partial move (moving items to 2nd home outside CH, remaining resident in CH), it’s complicated! By no means you can just declare „all used items“ and cross the border with your stuff (CH to Europe). A lot of paper work and charges (tax & customs“)...

We have done it to Italy many times and never had an issue. Crossed with the van, told what it was and showed address for Italy and that was it. Perhaps you can elaborate on your experience and which country and which stuff etc or it seems hard to believe for me.

As Tom and kri said it's no drama at all. We have/and do this regularily from CH to France (so non EU to EU) over the last few year as we scale back life in Switzerland. It's really is as simple as prepping an inventory (for designer stuff or not, items just needs a notional value or a reciept), there are even online templates to help or you can re-invent the wheel and do a template in excel, and having your documents ready for customs at the border.... simples.

How else do you think the appropriate taxes are paid, or the difference between private and commercial imprts made?

I've done it a few times.

Grab excel, create a list of what you are carrying. Add a value to each item (used items obviously are less value). Don't be silly on the values...

At the border, show the excel, total value, and bobs your uncle.

Don’t understand why we were unlucky then. We had to pay Italian VAT on our stuff (a few antique furniture items, some ikea, clothes, kitchen stuff). It was all used and we used 2nd hand prices as reference based on similar items found in EBay (we had no receipts, was all old stuff). We had a lorry 3.5t rented in Italy.
