Moving to Geneva - temporary accomodation

Hi all,

Exciting times ahead for us as we've finally secured a position in Geneva! Start date is October 1 and we'll be coming over the week before to begin the flat search. However, all the reading that we've done indicates that the hunt for a flat will probably involve a fight to the death for each vacant property with at least 100 other applicants...

So we're prepared that finding our accomodation may take a while, and hence there's a need to find a self-contained flat which we could rent on a month by month basis. I've done quite a bit of searching, and predictably the serviced apartments in Geneva for which there are websites are extortionate, eg 5000CHF per month for a 35m sq studio! I have managed to uncover www.genprop.ch , whose rates seem much more manageable (from 2100CH pm for the same thing).

My question is whether anyone who's gone through the same process has any thoughts on this? We will be looking to secure our own flat/house on an annual lease as soon as possible, but to begin with we do need something short-term. Has anyone stayed with GenProp and, if so, your thoughts on them please? Can anyone suggest some alternatives please?

All help/advice gratefully received!

Thanks,

G

PS The company I'll be working for is based on Rue de la Confederation if that helps to provide a starting point....

Hi,

Yes I can help, we aim to please.

First of all you've posted (mostly) in the wrong area, so you should read this

http://www.englishforum.ch/apartment...advertise.html

Then go here

http://www.englishforum.ch/apartment-house-adverts/

read this

http://www.englishforum.ch/apartment...ents-area.html

and then look at this list

http://www.englishforum.ch/apartment...partments.html

I hope that's enough to get you started.

To be honest, I did read the sticky and as I didn't believe I was posting anything for rent or sale, I thought I was posting in the correct place. Apologies if that was incorrect.

I had also used the advanced search feature for combinations of "Geneva", "short term", "apartment" and "flat" and did not get any hits, hence my asking the question.

Thanks for pointing me in the direction of the serviced apartments sticky....

Sorry, I don't know anything about the company but I wanted to thank you for posting the link! I hadn't seen that one before and it looks like a great deal!

No problem! Having not found any better deals, it seems as though you and I may both be staying there in September/October!

Cheers

G
