Moving to Zug area

Hi all,

We are moving to the Zug area in April and were wondering if anyone had any specific tips about places to live (or not to live). We are a family of 4 with 2 kids (2 and 6). There seems to be some nice areas such as Zug, Baar and Walchwil but we don't know too much about each.

Also, If anyone knows of any houses 5.5 rooms or greater coming available please let us know. We've been watching Comparis and there are a few places but I assume not all of the "objects" as they are know actually make it to the website.

Thanks!

If you're looking for places in the Zug area, you can also check www.immozug.ch which is updated every Friday morning - it's basically the local "free ads" so you'll find more on there than on Comparis. Also www.homegate.ch which is Swiss-wide. And finally, you get a few places listed on the local bank site, www.zugerkb.ch

In addition there's a big new build going on near to Baar station - but the web link on the massive poster on the side doesn't work :/

As well as the areas you mentioned, Cham is also nice but not so picturesque and the Aegeri's (Unteraegeri and Oberaegeri) are also good spots I'm told.

Oh and welcome to EF / Zug

edit - just realised that if your German isn't so good, the immozug site can be a bit tricky to find your way around. If you're looking to rent, you want "immobilien - zu vermieten" and if you're looking to buy (?) then you want "immobilien - Zu verkaufen"

Thanks for the quick reply and additional links. We had not seen those before and the free adds definitely have some adds we have not seen. Thanks again for info and welcome!

Hi and welcome to the forum. Walchwil is a lovely village and there are quite a few expats living here with young families. It is very convenient for Zug and Lucerne, you get a bit more for your money and you are almost guaranteed stunning lake/mountain views.

Hi and welcome to the Forum!

Here is a local online marketplace that has many apartments:

Unfortunately, I think it is only in German. "Immobilien" is the

German word.

And Sebastien Vettel as a neighbour

and who he??

Sound advice just wanted to stand up for Cham a little as I think its a really picturesque village, right on the lake and with lovely parks. I'm not sure what parts you have been to but having lived in both in Baar and Cham, I much prefer Cham for the scenery and its connection to Luzern and Baar for the connection to Zurich and its Thai restaurant.

Formula 1 driver for Red Bull Racing (unless he moved teams in the off season) - there was a bit on him in 20min a couple of years ago when he bought a place in Walchwil.

Cham I must confess I don't know that well - I lived there 1 month when I first moved here (in the Lindenhof Bar & Grill which I recommend as a restaurant but not as a hotel) and visited friends there, and all I have really seen is train tracks, the motorway, a big Adidas warehouse shop, and the road to Zug past the Porsche garage.

So my impressions are that it's not so picturesque, but then I've never been to the lake part or the parks so I'm quite happy to be corrected.

Thanks again to all for the very helpful info. We will be touring the Zug area this week for a couple of days to look at some places so this additional information is greatly appreciated.
